New 4Runner Soon-to-be-Owner...

Hey Everyone,

So, I've got a deal on a Toyota 4Runner that I'm going to be buying and picking up soon-thus the Soon-to-be. It's a 1996 4wd with a V6, RR Diff lock, manual, and 111k miles--Almost perfect condition. It has a few bruises on the rear bumper, but other than that it's great! It's only downfall is the ugly light blue color (can't stand that color, sorry for those who like it).

So, first thing that happens with this gal is it's getting a new paint job! With that, I'd like to put on a sport-hood, but I don't know where to get one? Can anyone direct me to reliable seller for these?

Wow. New paint jobs are like $2-3k, at least. I hope you're not taking it to Maaco. Unless you like painting your car every year.

I'd leave the paint alone and start the mods. Check your local junk yard for sport hoods.
 
I got it for a really low price, so I have a bit left over for a good paint job. When looking at years, will hood from a 99-02 fit the 96 as well?
 
Do you know what color it is specifically? I used to have a '96 SR5 in Lavender Steel. Loved that color. Put up some pics! The people will speak, especially since you have a manual. Nice find, and welcome. :bigok:
 
If it's the blue I'm thinking about, I agree it's ugly. There is one around my house that I see every now and then.

Yes a sport hood from any 3rd Gen will fit any other 3rd Gen.

I think you have three options as far as where to buy one.
1. Dealership
2. Aftermarket company
3. Junk yard

Congrats on the soon to be purchase.
 
Looking at that link and the colors listed, its the "Azure Blue Metallic" that looks kinda like sky blue.

I have to agree with KellyJ on this one, I love that color too. I don't see that color too often. Great find and congrats on the new vehicle. I'll be the first to warn you though, once you start the mods you will not be able to stop lol.

Only way to do that is to get out of the truck, shut the door and manually lock it using a spare key.
 
There is a sensor in the driver's seat that knows if there is a certain amount of weight present (meaning the driver) and if the sensor isn't tripped it won't lock or keep the doors locked even if you lock it with another key and it's running.
 
I'll have to try locking it when outside the vehicle.. I can't remember if I've tried locking the doors while still sitting in the vehicle or not.

Another question from the Newbie 4runner-owner: What's the default tint on the windows of this vehicle? It's my first vehicle with tint, and would like to put the same on my front windows.

This weekend I'm pulling the audio cables from my car and putting them in here for the sub/amp combo. Nothing huge, but I like a bit of bass with my music. Can the power cable be ran along the side, or is there a better way to string the power cable to the back where the amp/sub will be?

I'm not saying it's not, but how do you know this?

I put 20% on my fronts and they match really well.

I'm using a Rockford Fosgate 300.1 amp with dual 10" RF subs (can't remember their exact model off the top of my head). In my car I ran the power cable under the carpet but long the side of the driver side where other cables were ran from the front to the back of the vehicle. I didn't know if the 4Runner had something similar there for me to run the power cable to the cargo area.

I've heard of some people mounting the amp under the driver seat, but I figured with living in a snowy area this might not be a great idea. That's why I'm going to mount it in the rear.

Yeah, running them along the side will work. There is a little plasic piece that covers the carpet along the door seal and I believe you can run them under than.
