^^ Yes, I just used some black Gasket Maker silicone around the bolt openings in the roof rail channels and put some on the bolt threads as well. I'm sure any type of silicone sealant will do the job. With the two of us, took roughly half hour or so for the install. Post some pics when you get yours installed.

Wait, I didn't think there was drilling involved with this rack. I thought it mounted directly to the stock rail mount?

No drilling required, I installed mine last night. I took the old rack off and had the new one on within an hour. The Baja mounts directly into the existing holes from the stock rack. :banana:

OK, that's what I thought.

I also thought, total assumption, that the stock mounts are on the exterior of the vehicle and wouldn't require weather sealing, i.e. don't go through the metal on top rather sit on top in a channel.

Bad assumption? I can't see why you would need to seal the mounts. Are the stock ones sealed?

^^ There are basically two tubes that poke out of the top of the roof at each mounting location. There is a small gap between those tubes and the metal of the roof. You just use some silicone around those tubes to prevent water from leaking down into the truck. The stock roof racks had some type of sealant in there as well.

When I was having my rack built, I talked to the local Toyota parts department about buying some of the sealant Toyota uses. They don't sell it. The parts guys had a spool of what they called "Dum Dum", which is basically a moldable black rubberish substance that comes wrapped in waxed paper a looks like licorice rope. It's exactly like the stuff that we pulled off the bottom of the rails where they attached to the roof, under the little black brackets that fit over the white tubes. Your parts department might be able to hook you up, but I ended up not using it.

I used some clear silicone that I had left over from sealing the kitchen counter backspash to seal around the outside of those tubes, and we lubed the bolt threads with some blue gunk to keep the water out. No leaks.

The quality is great. Install went pretty smoothly.

Here's what the roof looks like without the rack. There was a ton of dirt in there, even though I only have 5k miles.

Note. I think those little pieces of metal go with the factory rack. I took them out. And then silicone cauked the he'll out of the channel.

They are stock with every 2010 4Runner. They hold the little plastic covers on for Runners with no rack.

My roof was filthy too.

Not directly. I am planning on experimenting to find a Yak tower that will attach to the rack, and put the Yak bars over the top of the rack.

i see that baja rack on their website has a light bar for the racks, does anyone know if it can be installed in this model, and if so my concern would be that since the rack is set back does it work ok to actually have the lights on top, hope i explain myself i do not know how to phrase it

Those who have installed this rack; are you liking it? I too am a little concerned with water issues. I am thinking of ordering one as opposed to spending 2 or 3 times on similar setups. When I use this vehicle, I have people in all 3 rows and it would be great to just throw things up there and strap them down.

I have to take some measurements, but I don't think I will have the height in my garage to just add a basket on top of the factory crossbars. This seems like my best option if I can get by my worries about water.

I like it, haven't had any issues with water getting inside, just remember when you install it, put some silicon around the openings in the roof. My garage is about 7' tall, it has the roll up style door. It fits fine, with my lift on I have about 5-6 inches still of clearance. If you have a wooden flat door, good chance you might not fit since those doors steal about 7" of the extra space.

Are you sure you were looking at the 5th Gen rack? Baja Rack - Gen 5

The 4th gen rack has pictures that includes a light bar (appears to be a separate frame the connects to the base rack).

EDIT: the Accessory section shows 3 light bars; one only compatible with the MULE rack. the two other light bars ($200/$220) do not indicate what they work with. There is very little additional info on them, or images.
