I just bought my first 4Runner, drove 19 hours round trip in one day to pick it up and bring it home.
1996 Limited, 4x4, locker, lift, 265/75 BFG's, no running boards, K&N fipk intake. 175K on the odo.
I have a couple questions about different things. First, the truck is lifted with what looks like really nice spring/shock combo. It rides real good and is very nicely damped. The shocks are white in color, and they say "explorer" on them. I'm trying to figure out what brand they are. (I bought the truck from a dealer, it was a trade-in, so they didn't know anything about stuff)
Second, my throttle is really stiff. From searching it looks like it either needs lubed real good, or I need a new cable. I was curious if there was any input into the best lube or the best way to actually lube it.
Third, I searched for the e-locker modification info, but most of what I found refered to the '98-newer trucks. I want to be able to use the locker in 4HI at least...if I get 2HI availability as well, then that's fine too.
Fourth, both the inner CV boots are torn clean all the way around next to the clamps. Decent amount of grease buildup on the lower control arms. I'm not sure if I should just get new boots and re-pack them, or if I need new axles entirely.
I'm new to Toyota mechanic'ing....but have done complete engine tear-downs, transmission swaps, etc on other makes. Don't be shy on technical advice if you have it!
I'll get some pictures soon!
