New addition to the family

I just purchased a 2006 4runner SR5 V8. I absolutely love it. Just got back from a the beach and averaged 19.9mpg. I'm getting 19.7 after 3 weeks of ownership. I can't get over how quiet and smooth it is. My last SUV was a RX300 so I wanted to stay in the 4runner family. Are there any must have mods I need?

Man...i love how the 2006s look! Big fan!

Mods that are my favorite:

1. Get more aggressive tire...like an all-terrain tire (BFG AT KO and Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor are my favorites). Get something slightly bigger...265/70/17 size if you have 17" rims.

2. Get rid of running boards. Get rock sliders. This may be a problem because not many companies make sliders for 2006 models due to some minor changes to the underbody of '06 models. See this thread for more info: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20162

These two mods are what i would start off with. In fact, that would be it for me if i got a 4runner. If i really want it all, then i may get ARB rear locker to complete the package.

Nice looking truck , I take it that you have a 2wd V8 ?

The white looks sharp !

Better and bigger all terrain tire will make a world of difference in look's.

I think that it says 4wd next to SR5 emblem. Dude, get off the pain meds! They are blinding you!!:D
 
Thanks for the tips and compliments. The only thing I don't like about my 4runner is the black mirrors. I have a feeling they will fade over time. Anyone have an idea of what it would cost to replace them with the painted ones?

Congrats on the new truck and welcome to the board! You are lucky you were able to find a 4WD V8 SR5.

It's about $215 each mirror housing from Partznet. Might be cheaper to talk to a body shop and see if they can sand (I think the plastic is textured right?) and paint it.

I'm thinking about getting those chrome covers for the side mirrors. You should try getting those. Price isn't that bad (like $80 from a website, and $135 from Toyota Japan).

I just noticed that you're from Fresno. Me too ....I've probably seen your truck driving around!! Mine's a Titanium Silver Sport Edition 4WD. I love it...How long have you had yours and when did you get? It looks recent...Just wondering how much you paid for yours in the Fresno area. It just kinda looked like you purchased it at Bingham...I'm not sure...anyway...I hope you love your truck as much as i do. Mines almost a YEAR old already. In a couple of months...September 2005 is when I purchased my truck. I can't believe it's been that long already!...

Anyway, it's good to see a Fresno member on here. By the way, have you gone up the hill since you've bought it?...I know you gotta break it in first, but it's a must....It was great this winter, had some great pictures up in The Sierras up on 168...East...here's my link...

Oh hey, thanks. I think it'll be a little hard to recognize my T4R (because there's many SR5 2WDs on the road). Like today, at the gas station, another EXACT 4Runner like mine, White, Taupe interior, SR5 2WD, and has "Binghamtoyota.com" was also filling up at the station. The lady said she traded in her Trailblazer for the 4Runner and she loves it.

I've only had mine since Jun 17. Still breaking it in for better mpg. I think you'd probably recognize me in a GX instead, because back when the GX first came out, a color, named SAND DOLLAR PEARL came out and it's not a totally white color, but a creamy color. I know there's only like 3 or 4 Sand Dollar Pearl GX470s in Fresno. Two of them have "Fresno Lexus" plate frames (mine's on of them). Even the license plates of the two Fresno Lex Sand Dollar Pearl GX470s almost have the license plate number in order (the other one is 653 and mine's 657). I can't believe I've actually had this Lex for 3 1/2 years now. Seems like it was just the other month that I took her home.....:beer:
