Yeah I understand that but in this case it looks like ARB is trying to bend us over. Waaay too much money for this IMO. I could see $300-400 (which is still excessive) but $800 plus!? Ridiculous! I'm sure after a few years the price will come down due to supply and demand.

But, every time you see a 4x4 magazine centerfold featuring a shiny new Jeep with $25,000 in upgrades, it will probably have one of these somewhere. So, I'm sure they'll sell!

The reason the Hi-Lift sells so well is because it's a really cheap item that a guy can bolt to the top/side of his Jeep/Toyota to show other Jeep/Toyota guys that he reads the right forums and isn't a poser.

Nobody will buy this ARB jack.

A well-accessorized hi lift is vastly more versatile than this thing. I occasionally winch with mine, and actually find lifting from the wheels using a lift-mate to be quite stable. In fact, my trolley jack finally gave out after 12 years, and I havent even bothered replacing it.

It only takes the mildest cognizance with the hi-lift to really mitigate the handle risk. Most of those injury videos have so much wrong with them, it is like watching a cheap horror movie. You watch them make a series of poor choices, from jack placement to jack footing to body position to hand position to actual operation, and then just sit there biting your nails until it goes bad.

Guns and cars and kitchen knives can be quite dangerous, too, if you use them incorrectly.

For what ever reason, I’ve noticed that a lot of people have a negative opinion of the hi-lift jack. I’ve been wheeling for 30+ years and I don’t get it. The only thing I can figure is that their off road experience is limited, or there’s some other cool shit out there that I’m unaware of. If that the case, then I have a lot of questions about how you get out of a lot of jams without one, like: how do you jack and stack? How do you shift your rig over, to miss a boulder or tree? How do you change a tire in the middle of technical section? There’s a bunch more, but those are the easy ones. I’m genuinely curious...

That being said, there’s a lot of uses that I just don’t see that $800 jack doing. It doesn’t look like You can use the handle to reinforce a bent tie rod. I’d hate to burry that thing for a deadman anchor and I don’t think you can pull with it either. But, that’s just my $.02.

While a Hi-Lift can be dangerous...I've never had an issue. Been wheeling for 3 years, and have used a hi-lift 10x now. Not much, but some. Know what you're getting into. Know your limits. Keep your jack lubed.

Since I get ARB parts at cost, I will probably buy this. :eyebrows:
