new brakes

Well my 4runner failed state inspection today because the front pads are thinner than 2/32nd's. I just turned 60k so I guess it's time. I swung by the local stealer and picked up pads, pins, shims and clips. My question is does anyone run drilled rotors with the bigger brakes and do they work better? And if they are what's the best source to buy them?

Well on my 07 TL Type-S I run cross drilled and slotted rotors, SS lines, and ceramic pads. Thats with the brembo brakes too. I guess on my 4runner I dont really see the need, the brakes up front are already pretty beefy. Seems like there are a lot of ebay sources for drilled rotors..

Yea, on all of my imports I ran large drilled rotors, performance pads and calipers with nice lines but all of that is to combat heat buildup. I dont really see a lot of heat being built up due to brakeing in my 4runner... if I'm going that fast and braking that often im probably in a police chase and im f-d anyway.

I see your 4r is supercharged so maybe you do some track stuff or drive fast alot? if so i guess they could help...

Drilled rotors have a tendancy to crack beween the holes. I wouldn't do it. Maybe slotted, but it probably wouldn't make a huge difference.

Porsche rotors are cast with the holes, not drilled.

I tow a 5k lb trailer periodically so I thought they would be a benefit. Maybe I'll just stick with the OEM. Thanks for the advice.

Company that sells mostly on ebay, R1 Concepts, makes some very good rotors that are x-drilled and slotted. Ran them for 100K miles on my Jeep GC and others that I know use them for various full size trucks. Never had issues with them, and when you read they're listing they go into detail as to why theirs are better.
