New Bumper maybe. Ideas??

My rear bumper weighs 50lbs max. The ARB's are cool for expedition stuff, but as far as rock crawling, they suck. Mine has rock rash all over it, plus the 90º bend at the bottom just digs into the rocks. Its hard to slide it over stuff. Just not my style. the savage bumper seems good enough for the money. And as far as HREW vs DOM it really depends on the quality/carbon content of the steel... Im sure that should be saved for another day LOL

I think Marlin Crawlers website explains where DOM is not always better than HREW and how they use high quality HREW.

Exactly my friend :)

I could see high quality HREW being stronger than low or medium quality DOM, but don't you think DOM would be better if the quality/carbon content were the same on each? The method DOM seems to make the steel a lot stronger all around since there's no weaker point than another (seam).

Are those bumpers (not ARB) being bolted on only in the front, strong enough not to get pulled off when the winch is pullin on it?

Generally DOM is a different grade steel altogether, but if you had comparable material I would think DOM would be more dent resistant, But I think that would only apply to the Area with the seam on HREW. if you put the seams on the inside of your bends its highly unlikely that you would even hit the seam. DOM sure is nice to work with.

and to the comment about the straight pull on those bumpers. they mount with 6 bolts at least, and as long as the bolts are Decent quality there would be no issue. Ripping the head off a bolt is tough.

ya i hear ya, but i was just thinkin that bc the winch mount is higher up then where the bolts are so i was just thinkin the force of the winch would stress the bolts, bc it seems the winch would pull down on those bolts or pull up on the bolts

Im sure there is some leverage factor, I just looked up some charts for grade 8 bolts. THey have about 4000 lbs shear strength (side to side) and 5000 lbs tension strength (straight pull, or they way they are on those bumpers) so even if they used 6 1/4" grade bolts then it should be safe to 30,000 LBS of tension
