My wife test drove about 8 different cars this week and decided on a new Toyota Camry XLE V6 today. I was wondering what you guys think about extended warranty's ? .......... I have them down on the price to $ 750.00 from $ 1,500.00 for the Toyota Gold extended ........ Good till 7 years or 100,000 miles with no deductible for the life of the plan. It looks like it covers quite a bit but im still not sure if it's worth it on a car that is this good?? Then again one A/C compressor and it's more then the cost of the extended warranty. The wife will be driving about 30,000 miles per year.

Well, if she will drive 30K miles per year, then she will hit 100K before 3-1/2 years are gone.

We have a 1997 Camry V6 and it's been rock solid, although it only has 57K on it.

Generally, I'm not a fan of extended warranty, but I have one on the 4Runner because of the sunroof. You are right that one air conditioning compressor would pay for the warranty, but do you expect it to go out in less than 4 years?

If you want to check the price, contact Shaun McKinsey, who's a member of this forum (just search for his name). He typically has the lowest price for a Platinum Extended Warranty.
 
It's not the time span that the compressor should be looked at here, but the hours of use it will get. Just like the rest of the car really. You may only get just over 3 years out of it, but it will still have the car covered for 100K miles. If she uses it for business, I assume she can't have it down for long, and if something really expensive breaks at, say 80K miles, it always takes longer for them to tear down the problematic parts, work up an estimate, call you and discuss it all with you, then once that's done, they proceed. Some dealerships will do an estimate, then put your car back outside and start on another job, and wont get back to yours until they are done, provided you OK the repairs.

With warranty, they just pull it in, fix it, and call you to tell you it's done. No fuss, no muss.

I do all my own work on my cars, but I got the 100K/7yr warranty on my T4R just because I dont have the time anymore to have a vehicle down while I'm working on it, nor do I have the tons of cash to fix big ticket items in one shot, making the downtime longer.

Of course, we only put 12-14K a year on our vehicles, so I should make that 7 years just fine lol.
 
Not meant to offend anyone, but check to see if it is Japanese production Camry, serial # starts with JT....... If it is, then probably good without extended warranty.

My wife and I had many previous Toyota's, including a 1994 Camry, never had problems. All of them ran past 100K miles except a 2000 Solara, made in the Canada plant. Quality was definitely different and the only one to have problems less than 40K miles including nonfunctioning side window, airbag warning light intermittently coming on (never resolved completely), and rattles everywhere. Finally traded it in.
 
Not sure if there are still japanese imported Camrys, back in 94 and last time my father in law was looking for a Camry in 03, Toyota was still importing a minority of them from Japan. I think only V6 models.
 
The new Camrys are a pretty hot looking sedan IMO. There is a dealer here who tricked a few out with some TRD stuff and man it looked so tough.

I must say it is a real nice ride and that 268 hp V6 just "cooks" and it gets 32mpg on the hiway......... Everything ells we looked at with a big V6 was between 27 and 30 hiway. :D
 
If you're planning to keep the vehicle long term (7+ years) I'd buy the extended warranty. I bought one for my 4Runner and already have 32k miles on it after 1 1.5 years of ownership. I tend to put a lot of miles on my vehicles from long trips and such, so the warranty seemed a good investment considering the amount of time I plan on keeping my 4Runner and the miles I plan to put on it.

Just my 2 cents.
 
All Camrys are made in the US.

I would get it since you're getting a 1st year model. Although reliable thus far, the V6 models do have some issues with it's transmission. I am not sure if it's fixed or not. Thus, i would get the extended warranty.

Did she testdrive the RAV4?? My wife loves the crossovers because she gets to sit high and getting into/out is easy. In addition, the V6 RAV4 has the 5-speed auto which has (thus far) a better track record in terms of reliability than the 6-speed auto in the Camry/ES350. Fuel economy is close and you get a far more practical package in the RAV4.

We did try a Rav4 she liked it but wanted a car so the Camry it is. I decided to get the ext-warranty .......... my dad and I looked over the contract real good and the gold pkg. covers quite a bit and at $ 750.00 It's worth it.

Yes that rav-4 is a great little suv I was impressed.

You gotta love Toyota's ext. warranty prices!! It says a lot about the car that you're buying. It's a good buy! My ext. warranty on my G500 was a lot (well, a few thousand) more than $750!!:(

My dad has an 06 XLE v6 built in Japan. They still make some in Japan. They had an 07 XLE v6 in the showroom built in Japan also. The VIN started with a J.

If I was to buy a car / sedan that Camry is the stuff !! If I had excess cash for a nice riding car I would buy one in a heartbeat. I Think they are one of the best looking cars out right now.

We drove a 4cyl. Rav and a 6cyl. Rav. since we've been looking for another SUV to replace our Escape. Wife did not like the Rav at all , and thats what she really was going for. She said felt like she was driving a mini van.

I personally thought it was pretty nice , but then we jumped into a Highlander and the ride of that blew the Rav option out the door.

Needless to say we still have the 04 Escape Sport pkg. which is ok , good little SUV , V6 , 4x4 , Auto trans , no problems , blah , blah... can't ask for much more .

We are renting an FJ in a few weeks since my wifes Escape will be in the shop . Be a good chance to play in one .

I was told by the manager at the dealer how to tell by looking at them. Japanese built ones have a cover on the front bumper where the eyelet screws in to.

Gave my 4Runner to my brother, and plunked down $20K to get into a 2007 Camry SE with the 18" TRD wheels back in June. Just got the tint done a few weeks ago, and I gotta say I love the fact that I'm saving $$ on gas!! The car is balls fast (even though I'm still breaking it in) and it looks damn good. Pics to come soon. 267 HP on regular unleaded, 6 speed automatic and my lead foot equals 350-400 miles local and 450-500 highway...can't say I got anything close to that on my 4Runner. The best I got from the 4Runner was maybe 400 miles on cruise control. I do miss my rig, though. Hopefully it stays in the family for a long time.

But in regards to the extended warranty question...if you can get it for a good price I don't see why not. I didn't get it myself because I basically told the finance monkey I'm not going to buy anything...no VIP alarm, no gap insurance, no extended warranty, etc. That took care of his BS and I was out of there in 5 minutes.
