I spoke to them last week and gave them a list of improvements I'd like to see. Personally if I could have the rotatable head of the arb with the low-footprint design of the TJM I'd be sold. Basically the 3rd gen 4Runner/Tacoma snorkel was what I'm looking for.

IMO that’s some mall crawler shit. It will look like balls after it gets scratched to shit.

Honestly my arb looks like balls up close at this point. Aluminum would be the way to go. Gucci and practical.

So, from my understanding on a wimpy na gasoline engine, a pre cleaner will restrict airflow. It needs to do so in order to spin and fling the dust out.

Big turbo Vin Diesel it has little effect on airflow. On our 4Runner it’s a bigger trade off.

I’m no lawyer but me thinks this is the true true. This response brought to by beer.

Hmm...
Curious how much air inflow there will be with the air ram facing backwards. Especially if you have items on the roof or attached to the side (awning) blocking air.
This will hurt the already amazing fuel consumption and throw off the engine control module.
I don’t have my glasses on, but it looks like the intake is mounted on the roof water drain channel as well.

I know it's not the same, but I wish there was a way to just make the hood scoop functional. Oh well...

Understandable. I think that's the biggest hurdle a lot of potential buyers have trouble getting over. However, I do find it strange that people are the most reticent about the part of the job that's the most easily reversible. It's like everybody ignores the part about drilling into the a-pillar.

Anyway, it'd cost about the same money in parts and paint to replace a fender as the front bumper cap. Yet the same guy who's too skeert to saw into his fender, will gladly take a cutoff wheel to his fascia to install a bumper without blinking an eye...

Are people really going to trust a random wheel manufacturer to build a durable and functional snorkel? I wouldn't put that thing on my rig that's for sure. Water ingress, lack of air flow, restrictive design are just a few concerns. Looks like "Overland Jewlery" to me.

My Dobinsons snorkel has all sorts of marks on it, it's still completely functional, but it's plastic, so it's meant to do that. I can't even begin to count the thousands of tree branches that it has been entirely responsible for relocating. I don't think I'd feel confident or comfortable that a CF snorkel would stand up to half the abuse.

BUT, it'll look great at the parking lot meet or on the 'gram!

Also interesting, is that it places the air intake directly in the path of water coming down the roof/open to rainfall

Well doesn't each panel of the car have a VIN tag? I know old LX470s do; I'm not sure about the 4runner. The bumpers almost certainly don't.

The point of that is that it's one thing to replace the bumper if it's not VIN tagged; all it is is a wear item with some paint on it at that point when you replace the panel. But sawing into you quarter panel that is VIN tagged is another ballgame altogehter; the car is no longer numbers-matching at that point. In terms of price, there may not be much difference. But there's certainly a difference with relation to end value of the vehicle itself.

I suppose you could just take the factory panel off and store it somewhere, put on a used one that you can cut up, and install the snorkel. That way if you wanted to take it off at some point, you could install the factory part.

Totally agree with you on the A-pillar. I guess I thought I'd be able to come up with a creative solution to that so that I wouldn't have to drill it. But you're right, it's easy to forget.

Personally I hate the CF, I would Rhino line that thing. I think the design is good overall, but it doesn't look like it would fit with my prinsu rack, so meh. I really don't think the airflow will be any worse than pulling air from inside the fender.

Hood scoop is not much higher then the oem airbox. That idea would be functionless for crossings. Snorkels are not a performance mod either. You will get very little gains from the snorkel facing one way or the other. You see them facing backwards from time to time idea being to avoid sucking in snow, rain, heavy dust.

I live in a dust bowl. Snorkel helps my truck breath better. Filter stays cleaner longer. Engine should in theory have a better chance at lasting longer.


The fender is the cheapest easiest way to get the snorkel up to a safe height. It’s the easiest to reverse. Fender is cheaper then a hood and you can’t compromise the fire wall.
