New engine sounds great w/out cat & muffler

I also posted this in my "not a build" thread.

New (rebuilt) engine is in with K&N intake and Doug Thorley headers. This is what it sounds like with no cat nor muffler. :thumb:

Throw a code, smell awful, and forget about smog test, but at least it sounds cool.

The exhaust will be finished tomorrow. Some stuff needs to be rerouted due to the exhaust changes forced by the new headers.

2.7's open header are definitely cool sounding, but don't have the same throaty growl as the V6 when you get higher in the RPM range. Idles like a beast.

My runners red!!! i was thinking of cutting my muffler off, would it sound like a honda civic with one of those can mufflers??

The 3RZ, like most I4 engines, has a 180° crankshaft with the same firing interval and firing order. So yes, if you cut your muffler off, it would sound similar to a Civic with no muffler.

But don't do that. It's just obnoxious to your neighbors, and does very little for performance.

I just broke my flexpipe in the 3rd gen 5 minutes ago. Cheap welds broke while wheeling.

I'll get a video before it's fixed
