Those who have these installed, how did they perform on the trails? Sand, dirt, moderate rocks, etc...? Thanks in advance everyone

I haven't hit a ton of trails, but the ones I were on that were a bit muddy, I could have left the vehicle in 4H and have had zero issues. It also snowed the other day and I didn't have any issues sliding or spinning unless I tried to do it. I left the vehicle out of 4H as well just to see how good the tires are with the snow rating. Even when smashing the gas it would only spin for a second or two and then grab traction.

Had mine installed yesterday. Went with the P285/70/17 since 90%+ of my time is spent commuting on the highway. Figured I would purchase an extra set of the E-rated for off-road use if I was pleased with these. Very happy so far. Seem smoother and quieter than the stock terra grapplers.

I've logged ~20 miles of very remote trails in eastern KY and they did very well. We had plenty of mud, rocks, creeks, etc and I was pretty impressed. I had a buddy there with a trail edition w/ Duratracs and we couldn't notice one vehicle doing better/worse than the other.

Mounted these on a few weeks ago, still have been impressed with them. They're just a tad louder than the Nitto's that come on the Pro. I can tell they handle the terrain much better than them too.

I have the Toytec 2" TRD Pro Lift on it.

I don't have much high quality side shots, but here's two from my cellphone. I do have some rake, but I go camping a lot so I didn't want to lose the level when weight is back there.

I’ve installed them just recently on my Truck and they are by far the best I’ve had. The noise is low and it’s a smooth ride if you have a good place that know how to balance the tires. These do take a lot of weight to get them balanced. I’d say that 80 percent of shops will mess it up and you’ll be driving a raped beast that’ll shake down the road.

Installed a set of these in 285/70-17 P on my new 2018 T4R.

Fitment had me scared they were too big, they're not. I did the fender well mod and I don't think I needed to. No rubbing anywhere YMMV.

Driving impressions for the first 100 miles, they're awesome!!! As quiet as the OEM tires. Handle the same if not better. As far as gearing is concerned, I always have felt these trucks could use a little more torque and a 6 speed tranny, but these tires didn't really make it any worse. Pretty much feel the same as stock, but look MUCH better.

We're supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow Thursday. If we do, I'll be back here with a snow report.

Summary, if you've been considering these tires or are concerned about the 285/70-17 fitting without rubbing?? The tires are OUTSTANDING and fit my stock rig very well.

Tire discounts

I've had great results using TireBuyer...you can choose from several installers in your area. You can get tires cheaper than the dealer can buy them in some cases, plus free shipping. Buy Tires and Wheels Online | Shop Tires | Tirebuyer. But not a fan of Falken Tires, mostly because they have zero customer service. Find a local dealer you can get to know that will stand behind what they sell.

I tried pricing the Falken A/T3W with Tire Buyer. I didn't find the price to be a savings over shopping locally with a tire dealer. I got a better price by a few dollars at American Tire Depot here in Los Angeles. The total was $1063 installed for five (5) LT285/70R17, E rated tires. I'm getting a matching spare and matching 5th rim. For 4 or 5 TPMS sensors it was another $28 ($8 each instead of $3 each for simple stems). Tire buyer wanted about $950 with a $50 discount for 4 or more Falken tires. Free shipping to my favorite tire shop for installation. Installation could be as low as $130 for 5 with the TPMS stems.

The tire shop has a Hunter balancing tool that looked okay. Is anyone familiar with that tire balancing tool?

I want to leave the original TPMS sensors in the OEM tires and sell them with the stock Trail tires. Is that the right way to do it? Will the tire shop be able to reset the car to recognize the TPMS sensors?

I need to make a tire selection in the next week or so, when my new 17x8.5" ICON Rebound wheels are scheduled to be delivered. So I'm going to bump this thread and ask for feedback from everyone again.

The tire shop has a Hunter balancing tool that looked okay. But what do I know about tire balancing?. Is anyone familiar with that tire balancing tool? I want to get the best balance possible because it's a 33" tall, heavy tire and wheel.

I'm not sure how the TPMS tire valve stem sensors work and how the dealer calibrates the system to work with new stems. I want to leave the original TPMS sensors in the OEM tires and sell them with the stock Trail Edition tires that are like new with about 25,000 miles on the tires. Is installing new TPMS sensors in the new rims the right way to go? Should I leave the OEM sensors in the OEM wheels when I sell them? Will the tire shop be able to reset the car to recognize the TPMS sensors?

I'd like to avoid remounting the OEM tires if I remove the OEM sensors from them. Is that the best way to sell them? If you were buying the OEM wheels would it make it easier for you if the OEM sensors are still in the rims?

Tire prices and local dealer

The 285/75/17's are on sale via Discount Tire Direct on ebay for $774!

I checked the price for a set of five (5) LT285/70R17 E rated tires on this site and found the same price as my local tire store, as noted above. With mount and balance at my local Discount Tire shop it came to $1063.

If the price is even close I'd rather shop with my local tire dealer. By doing that I spend the money in my local economy with people who work and live in my town and I get all that good will and service when I need it.

For those with P-series version of this tire, any issue on balancing? Also, what tire pressure do you run when on trails?

I have 285 waiting to be put on, if that matters.

Thanks for the input guys! i was very torn between these and the hankook dynapro ATM and because of the reviews on this thread I went with the Wildpeaks. I'll update once they're installed. Thanks again guys

Few things you might consider....

Your T4R factory wheels will fit several other model Toyota’s (Tacoma , FJ and 6 lug Tundras). So, your factory 4Runner tpms will probably not work with these other models if someone with one of the other models purchases your wheels/tires.
Your TPMS can easily be removed from your factory wheels without removing the tire. They only break the bead on the valve stem side, remove your tpms then replace it with a regular stem. No re-balance needed. Your factory tpms-stems will fit perfectly in you new icons.

I did this with my 2017 4runner when I mounted my new wheels. Ended up selling my factory wheels/tires to a Tacoma owner.

I finally went to Firestone to get these installed on my SCS Ray10's, but the shop is saying they can't get the equipment to get the tires to fit. They're backmounting the tires since they don't want to scratch the front. Anyone else ever have this issue?

The wheels are 17x8.5 and tires are 265/17/70...

Wide rim, narrow tire

The wheels are 17x8.5 and tires are 265/17/70...

Your wheel size may be too large for the tire width. Check the Falken site for the specs on this tire and see what rim size they specify. A drop down menu will appear showing all the tire sizes. If it's a LT tire you may need to select "truck tires" to find it listed. Same for the Cooper tires.

And why buy SCS rims to fit stock tires on? The advantage of a wider rim is fitting a wider tire, like 275 or 285 or larger. I like the SCS Ray10 wheels but looks are not the only thing I'm trying to achieve with a wider rim.
