New Falken AT tire (A/T3W)

I agree with you 100% I loved the look of the ridge grapplers, they weren't very loud for being very aggressive, handles fine on dry roads and did quite well in snow. In all actuality, they are not an AT tire, they are a mild mud tire with an AT stamp on them to make people looking for an AT tire feel better about their purchase lol. If you live in a dry area, I say go for it without thinking twice. If you live in a wet area, I say look at another tire. Before the RG I had the KO2 First time it rained after the RG install I left work and took an onramp that I take 5 days a week. It was raining, first time with these tires in the rain, I was driving no differently than I did with the KO2 and the back end started sliding out. Traction control and I believe stability control kicked in, I let off the gas, coasted, and it came right back but I was very surprised. Tires got better after about 3500 miles but the KO2 was significantly better. I decided to go with the AT3W over the KO2 because I have heard nothing but great things about them and so far they are living up to those reviews. I just wish they had a tire between the 285 and 315 but as of now they d not.
 
Damn!! I want to proactively hold out for a P275/70/17 for these. But I feel like I’ll be waiting forever!!!! [emoji848][emoji22]

I know there is a difference in the silica compound between the P rated and LT tires. Those with experience, is it that noticeable in the rain or snow between the two? Also I am thinking of going with the 275 C load. How much harsher is the ride from P to a C load?

Good luck finding a reliable vendor that sells the 275! I say this because I have been researching these tires for a hot minute and their website says 275 in c load as an available option but I only found one online retailer that held it and the reviews of them were not great. This might be due to the fact that is just started being offered as a size but I could be wrong.

I just ordered the P loads in 285 because I am mostly doing city/highway driving. They get installed this weekend so I'll check back in and let you know how the ride is compared to stock. The C load shouldn't be too harsh though if you were worried about that.

Did you compare the 285 P version with other 275/70/17 P brand like BF? How much bigger and heavier are they?

I've had the P rated 285's for 18 months. They do great in rain and winter/snow. I live in MN so that's 6 months of the yr. They ride soft and floaty. I will say however that they are much better when new and I'm a little dissapointed already in how they have worn, noise level, mpg hit, etc. They have uneven wear even with alignment. Much louder than when new and one tire has developed a weird /annoying vibration. They needed Re-balancing when new and first mounted, and recently. I have the dreaded 64mph steering wheel shimmy also. My opinion is they are cheaper for a reason. You get what you pay for - a low budget KO2.

I would have to disagree. I've had my Falkens for 25k miles, with a mix of highway, and hardy offroad. My tires still look brand new, no chunks, and little wear for that mileage.

I would assume your alignment was off causing your wear issue, which is not the tires fault.

Additionally, these are not 'cheap' tires in terms of quality. I've run K02s, and I would run the Falkens over the BFG's time and time again. Quieter, better tread life, great offroad, snow rated, and better in the rain.

What size rim with the 285's?
 
only 100 difference

Up in the great white north the wildpeaks are only 100 less than the bfg, this makes no sense up here. I dunno which way to go? 90 percent highway 10 percent in the dirt.

No P load in K02 which is all I was really considering other than the AT3W. The AT3W in 285 Standard Load (P) weigh 51 pounds whereas the K02 in 285 C load (that's the lowest they are available in) weigh 58 pounds. The thing I don't like is I'd probably prefer going 275 but the 275 K02 is in E load which will be way too harsh for my liking and weigh more than the 285 AT3Ws at 56 pounds. Falken makes the AT3W in 275 in a C load but they aren't readily available at retailers yet (I believe they were just released) and I'm impatient haha. But I'm assuming they'll flood the market here shortly which will be fairly light for an aftermarket A/T tire and hit that sweet spot at the 275 sizing.

Having owned both (now on 285 C load KO2s), I miss my Falkens every day. The performance difference IS noticeable. I’m just not impressed with the KO2, I won’t buy them again, and only got them because the deal from a friend with a new Rubicon was way too good to pass.

There's probably a reason too that Jeep switched to Falken vs BFG's on the new Jeep Gladiator models.
 
I’m about to install Bilstein 5100’s on my wife’s 2018 TRD OR. The plan is to do the .85” setting. The truck has TRD Pro wheels, should we go with the 265/70/17 or 275/70/17’s. Ideally I want the 275’s but I’m not wanting any rubbing. Anyone with 275’s with similar wheel and suspension combos?

I have them in 275/70/17 C load. Got them from tirebuyer.com, loving them so far, absolute beasts in the snow.

I'm pretty jealous. I was debating on purchasing from tirebuyer.com because that is the sole place I could find them online but the reviews I found of the buying experience there scared me away. I'm glad you had a good experience purchasing from them and that you love the 275 in C load. I think that is definitely the way to go!
