New Falken AT tire (A/T3W)

A little mini first impression review, since these things are still semi-new to the market:

Got mine mounted today: 285/70 R17 load range E. My 4Runner is a 2015 with KDSS and a Daystar 1.25" spacer in the front. Otherwise stock.

I removed the mud flaps and also the little rocker cover thingies just to be safe and avoid drama at the tire shop. I've added the rocker covers back, but will need to heat up and flatten out the mud flaps before reinstalling. I also did the fender liner mod last weekend.

So far, the only rubbing with the minor flexing I've done is on the bumper lip inside the wheel well with the wheel turned. I need to trim the bumper flush with the shifted fender liner. I'm sure I'll find more when I flex it and take it off roading.

These tires really are great looking, and shockingly quiet. They produce a small amount of road noise compared to the stock duelers, but no hum like most ATs. I've had BFG KOs and Toyo AT (not AT2...) which were FAR louder than these. I'm still surprised. I'm sure they'll get louder with wear, but this is dead silent for an AT.

I haven't had them in mud or on rock, so I can't comment on off road traction. The lugs are very very deep, and there is considerable siping, so I'm optimistic about wet weather and snow traction.

These beasts are heavy, though. As expected, I notice it over bumps and a bit during acceleration (which is potentially partly due to the diameter increase as well).

I just did a 100 mile round trip and they are Real quite. My Duratracs howled like hell on my Jeep. Went into my muddy cabin driveway that my stock tires had me in 4x4 in and I drove in and backed out in 2wd no problems. Not the best test but I baptized them at least.

Received mine on Monday and after two tries of getting them mounted at one place finally took it somewhere where an appointment gets honored. So far in city driving they are as quiet as the stock duelers.

Heated seat kits arrived today hopefully have time to install them this weekend.

I didn't pay attention when I purchased them as I thought the tire had one rating and I was wrong. So I ended up with the 115T which caries an SL rating or 4ply. Little disappointed but it is what it is that's why I carry an air compressor good camel hair plugs and a slime kit.

I am glad to see this thread. In planning on some more changes I have been looking at a couple of tires. This one has jumped to the top of the list. I would be going with the LT325/65R18

I'm thinking this could be a great tire for my purposes. It has great sipping for snow, good road manners, but a robust sidewall construction...not to mention a cheap price.

Currently running Falken Rocky Mtns (older wildpeak version) and love them overall. Wearing evenly and they are super quiet. Purchased my T4R with them already on it. I've put 20k on it (not sure how many it started with) and they still have 9/32"

I may get these over the Cooper AT3's based on the really good early feedback I'm hearing. It seems as though they ride exceptionally well on roads, despite being a cross between an AT and MT tire.

Anyone get it as a P rated tired and tested it on wet/rough roads?

I do and have. They grip extremely well in rain and on rough roads. I think these will be the cooper AT3 killer. These don't pick up rocks either.

Man, that would really muddy the water for me. I have a little over 30K on the stockers and they're wearing fine, but I had expected to replace them with the ATP or AT3 once they kick the bucket.

As long as it takes me to make decisions like this, I should probably start looking now.

Took these off road over the weekend and went through dirt, mud, & water. As stated, they seem to grip pretty well. They held up pretty well, and even though I purposely tried to get myself stuck (testing purposes), the Falken's seemed to grip under any condition, I definitely didn't feel any slippage.

I have systematically ruled out each of the following : Toyo Open Country's, the Firestone AT's, The Michelin AT2's, the Nitto Terra's and G2's, the General Grabber, Goodyear Duratraks (and the list goes on)......

Every time I look for something not so great about the Cooper AT3's, I keep reading that it's probably the best all purpose AT tire out there.......especially for wet road traction and highway manners, while still being great in dirt. Snow/Ice aren't issues for me, so I don't care about that aspect of performance.

And now this new Falken comes out that has me questioning this........ there aren't really substantive reviews yet given how new they are, and so the forums with user feedback is the best info out there right now.

Have you had the cooper AT3's before this? Any issues with balancing the Falkens (like many have complained about with the AT3's), or any vibration issues at high speeds ?
Any negatives?

They look awesome -- definitely better than the Coopers.

Mine are smooth as glass up to 65 mph (haven't had them on the freeway yet) but one wheel has a fair amount of weight on it to balance it out. Who cares though; smooth and quiet.

And on the comment of picking up rocks, I spend a lot of time on gravel roads and these suckers throw a lot of rocks when I get back on pavement. To be expected with such a deep tread.

I see gravel roads as well, sure they may throw some rocks but the rocks don't get embedded or hold in the tread like the cooper STMaxx. Those stmaxx were horrible at holding rocks. I've read the cooper AT3 also holds rocks. These Falkens don't hold rocks from my experience.

I've never had the AT3s, but I've had a lot of other ATs & MTs on previous Toyota 4WD vehicles. The AT3W 285s have balanced up extremely well for me; as good or better than the stock Dunlops. My Toyota shop does a good job balancing IME, and does not use a road force machine.

I can't seem to decide between these Falkens and the KM2's in a 285/75/17...I think the Falkens will be a better all around tire and snow tire...but the KM2's are just sooo burly looking.
