New Falken AT tire (A/T3W)

No balancing issues with mine. Great tire so far with 1500km on them. Very happy!

Installed mine and had 3 attempts to balance them so far. 2 from Firestone, 1 from Toyota. Still a shimmy between 60 and 70. Going back to Toyota this week for attempt #4 but so far I am really not happy.

Well I am back at Toyota now a week later for Toyota attempt #2 at balance. Total attempts will now make 4.

I saw them go take it for a ride first and they brought it right into the shop so they must have felt it.

It has been in there for over an hour and a half now. These tires must be giving them fits.

Sounds about the people who are balancing your tires doesn't know how to balance it properly. I bought the exact same time and go it done by Discount tire.. one time shot.

I think the Firestone had no clue. Only reason I went there initially is because the T4R has a lifetime alignment there and I wanted that done at the same time. I do 30k+ miles a year and am not paying Toyota $100+ X 3 over that span just to adjust toe for 20 min...hence the Firestone alignment. There are no discount tires around here that I know of and I had to mail order the tires from DTD.

It's done from Toyota now after an hour and 45 min. They put the one that took the most weight on the back. Happy to say I got it up to 70 already (in a 50 LOL) and no sign of a shimmy. Much, much happier now. Really wish that had been done right the first time last week so that I didn't drive 600 highway miles in agony earlier this week.

I already shudder (no pun intended) about when I will have to get them rebalanced in say 20-25k miles though...

What is funny is that the whole reason I ever started using that Firestone years ago is that they are the only place in like a 30 min radius with a Hunter Road Force Balancer. Me being a Jeep guy always with large and difficult tires, I liked that. But about a year ago they admitted to me that their best tech for the road force quit and none of the rest of the guys are effective at using the machine.

Im sold on the Falkens, I really want to run the 285's, but I cant bring my self to sacrifice to much gas mileage, What are you guys running the 285's getting?

I’m almost 100% sold on the 285s. The P rated ones are only 4 lbs more than the 265s. Gonna switch from trail wheels to the PRO wheels and that saves 7lbs so really the unsparing weight isn’t much different. The biggest mpg change in 285s is whether you get P rated vs E rated which is a significant weight change

I've had my 285/70/17's on for about 10k miles now w/ no balancing issues at all. I've rotated mine fairly religiously at 3k and they are wearing evenly... Now if I can just get the damn alignment to stay in spec.

What suspension do you have, your entire setup looks awesome.

90% city driving with a 2.5" lift with undercarriage armor i get 16.4 mpg. Just to add i have had no balance issues and have 12k miles on them. Installed and balanced at local tire shop (buds tire pros). Very happy with on and offroad use. 285LT.

I hoping to stay at 17 or above, and I was planning on doing the P rated. So maybe the 285 is an option. Ugh. This is hard.

7lbs a rim? Damn. I wasn’t planning on rims any time soon, but that could make me want to do them sooner. I’m planning on running P’s.

Maybe this will help. Buy some rims then turn around and sell the old ones and make half your money back. So you’re only spending about $300-400 on new rims after you sell the old ones

Look at my use though, I am 90% city driving, meaning stop and go, rarely go above 55 mph. I think that's pretty good. If you drive more freeway than me, you'll probably be at 17 mpg easy, especially if you don't have the lift and armor. Good luck!

What does everyone keep their 285/70/17 wildpeaks tire pressure at for everyday pavement driving? Are these tires unidirectional? I noticed the sidewall lugs are not symmetrical, so was just curious. thanks.....

Do you have a lift? What about upper control arms aftermarket?

They are made to mount either way. One side has raised black lettering, one does not. At least that’s how my p285s are .

I notice the P metric Falkens have a higher load rating than Nitto G2s and the KO2s in C load...since the Falkens have a 2-ply sidewall with it folded over, making it 4-plys thick almost to the outer lugs, is it safe to say the Falkens have adequate sidewall strength comparable to KO2s?

I had the P Falkens on my ‘16 tacoma and LOVED them, was thinking about going to KO2s for my 4Runner but never had them before. Haven’t read anywhere about someone getting a sidewalk puncture in the Falkens yet...

I was dead set in the P series in 285 after the great success I’ve had with P265s I’m currently running, but...my friend sold me his KO2s in 285 C load right off his ‘18 Rubicon for $600 (including spare). I couldn’t say no but I’m a bit scared I’m not going to love them as much as I’ve loved these Falkens.

The P series has tackled the hardest off roading I’ve done of all my friends. I tow regularly. They’ve been absolutely flawless in every regard and I’ve loved every mile of them. Hoping I don’t regret my move to the KO2.

I think for most, P series will more than suffice unless you drastically air down and run them A LOT.
