New Falken AT tire (A/T3W)

Thought I would throw in my two cents about these tires. Got them in the 285/75/17 size about 3 weeks ago for my 06 Tundra. First impressions was damn they look great and are heavy. 10 lb jump from my 285/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers, but they aren't any heavier than the other 285/75/17 options (minus the cooper at3, which is pretty much a street tire IMO). Ride wise these are amazing, silent on the freeway (can't hear them at all) and smooth as butter. The sides flex well but are firm around corners and really grip the road. The load E isn't harsh at all and they have a very deep tread depth. The sidewalls are very beefy and the side lugs help with the aggressive look and feel of the tires. I'm sure they will be helpful when wheeling as well. Haven't had any rain so no reviews on that and don't live by the snow so no help there. Should have them in some dirt soon but this is my DD so no crawling or anything.

Overall so far I'm extremely happy with them and could see these being the last set of tires I buy for this truck. With a 50k mileage warranty and how well they ride there isn't a tire that I would rather have yet (we will see how they wear and do in weather).

Anyone have any concerns with the sidewalls on these? I think it's only a 2 ply sidewall, but I'll looking for a 285/75/17 all terrain that has stronger sidewalls than the duratrac. It's either these or the Toyo AT2's...

Anyone offroad these Falkens?

305/70/17s generally work out close to 285/75/17 in size. I ran several sets of Duratracs and I don't think any one tire ever had less than 2 plugs in it before it was retired (some a lot more). I'm about to be on my 3rd set of MTRs and have never had to plug or repair a single one. Louder, heavier, harder to balance, requires frequent rotation, flat spots horribly, absolutely useless on ice and packed snow, but damn near unstoppable off road and tougher than nails.

I know these are super new, but has anyone run these and also run the terra grappler g2? Just seeing if the performance of th A/T3W is worth the weight difference (41lbs vs. 46lbs. Stock size p-metric). I know either way I'll be in better shape then with the stock dunlops. Thanks to all of those who have reviewed this new tire option.

As an insider, your statement appears to be a bit biased. I have been running the Hankook DynaPro ATM RF10 Tires on Tundra and gen 3 4Runner through at least three sets with excellent results and good life at about 45k each. I was going to run these on my new 4Runner, but wanted something a little more aggressive with the new KO2s.

I really like the look of the sidewalls, the price point ($208 for the 34's), and the fact they are siped for winter driving. I'm just still on the fence how these would hold up on the harder Colorado trails. After last summers duratrac fail, I'm looking for other options but not sure I really want to step up to a mud terrain since we do a lot of snow driving here.

Haha that's pretty funny, let me know if you want any other pictures, happy to take some and post them up. I usually don't go for new/unproven tires, but I really liked these and was able to see them in person prior to buying. Also in the end I paid $625 shipped to me for them with all the rebates out there. Can't beat that for 34's.

While the Passenger tire version was attractive in price, I share your concern. I have Colorado trips planned, so I sprung for the 10-ply load range E 285/70 R17, which arrive Tuesday. I suppose we'll see what happens. I have a feeling that I'm also going to have to get creative to fit these things with the tiny lift I have at the moment...

Just ordered mine off of Amazon you have to love the free shipping with prime to Alaska I'm not sure how they can make money with them at $148.65 each with shipping included. Tire Rack charges 380$ to ship a set of tires to Anchorage. They will be here Monday stock size and I can't wait to try them out.

Buddy of mine is running these, in 35" flavor

Those of you thinking about running 34", these are currently the most reasonably priced set you can buy right now. Really liking the improvements they make over the existing Wild Peaks. I know the lack of inside tread depth on the siping was a sore subject, so it looks like that was one of the first things they changed.

I really like the Goodyear SilentArmor tire. They drove perfectly on the highway and in sand, snow, water - they performed flawlessly. I did not do much in the mud, but a buddy and I got off track wheeling one day in my old Xterra and ended up in an el arroyo that had lots of water. Almost to the door sills, no worries, got out without any issues.

Did you get the standard load version or the higher load version (LT)? The LT is quite heavy compared to the stockers, especially for the size, it seems? Thx.

I was also considering these but for the equivalent size, they seem to be on the heavier side by a few pounds, even heavier then the ST Maxx. The price is definately attractive but the weight....

Going to mount these tomorrow. Load range E 285s. Impressed with the tread depth and siping, these should be fantastic in the snow but will have to report back next winter on that.

Received mine on Monday and after two tries of getting them mounted at one place finally took it somewhere where an appointment gets honored. So far in city driving they are as quiet as the stock duelers.





Heated seat kits arrived today hopefully have time to install them this weekend.

A little mini first impression review, since these things are still semi-new to the market:

Got mine mounted today: 285/70 R17 load range E. My 4Runner is a 2015 with KDSS and a Daystar 1.25" spacer in the front. Otherwise stock.

I removed the mud flaps and also the little rocker cover thingies just to be safe and avoid drama at the tire shop. I've added the rocker covers back, but will need to heat up and flatten out the mud flaps before reinstalling. I also did the fender liner mod last weekend.

So far, the only rubbing with the minor flexing I've done is on the bumper lip inside the wheel well with the wheel turned. I need to trim the bumper flush with the shifted fender liner. I'm sure I'll find more when I flex it and take it off roading.

These tires really are great looking, and shockingly quiet. They produce a small amount of road noise compared to the stock duelers, but no hum like most ATs. I've had BFG KOs and Toyo AT (not AT2...) which were FAR louder than these. I'm still surprised. I'm sure they'll get louder with wear, but this is dead silent for an AT.

I haven't had them in mud or on rock, so I can't comment on off road traction. The lugs are very very deep, and there is considerable siping, so I'm optimistic about wet weather and snow traction.

These beasts are heavy, though. As expected, I notice it over bumps and a bit during acceleration (which is potentially partly due to the diameter increase as well).
