New for '08 "Urban Runner"

i wonder if the Urban Runner version is Toyota's way of simply getting the most sales possible before they release an all new version?

Canon does this with their cameras, by just changing a few things with an existing body and then calling it by the same name but with an 'n' designation. Essentially the same produce but marketed as something completely 'new' to revamp sales.

I think I'd agree with you on this, as a way to gain some sales before ending this generation.

BMW does the same with their cars also, the E36 328is got a full M3 kit on their last year model, and the E39 540i Sport Package received a full M5 body kit before the current 5 series came out.

I like the Urban Runner, I think it looks great.

Most certainly. For the 4Runner specifically, in 2005 they gave it powertrain upgrades. In 2006, they gave it a minor face lift. Those were the more "major" upgrades, but each year, there have been small changes and not one year's model was exactly the same as the prior year's.

Lexus recently adopted the German way of it as well and discussed in great detail in another forum. The 3GS, introduced in 2005 as a 2006, GS300 and GS430. In 2007 the GS300 became the GS350. In 2008, the GS430 become the GS460. The entire GS line got a face lift in '08.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a special edition model either. Lexus also does this on their other models with special editions like, Coach, Sport Design, Pebble Beach, etc.

Most automakers will do this just so that "last year's" model isn't exactly the same as this year's. It sort of keeps this model fresh and also makes it easier to push this year's model because of the changes.

It's funny, when I first read that they were offering Blizzard Pearl as a special new color just for the Urban 4Runner, the first thing I thought of was Thai's old '02 Golden Pearl T4R, a color that was only offered on Limited's for the final year of the 3rd gen.

Makes me go hmmmmm as Arsenio used to say. However, I would think we would have seen spy shots by now if the new generation were coming out this fall. So I think '09 will be the last model year of the 4th gen, not '08.

I got a quote for the urban edition for 32,450 plus tax and Lic. I am debating between that or an 08 limited with nav 37778 out the door with tax and lic. OR wait and see what the 09 or 10 will look like. I cant decide. Right now I have a 2000 Limited 4x4, loaded.

I just noticed that you can get the same Urban Runner headunit at places like Crutchfield; selling for ~$500. I'm assuming it's the same specifications. Toyota has been selling this type of unit for the European Aygo and Yaris.

Circuitcity also sells the head unit but of course it doesn't have the toyota logo. I'm assuming its the same unit though.

Man I actually drove a black Urban Runner last week, and that thing is sick! The interior & the exterior, man.. it's one of a kind.

Yeah I got mine at circuitcity and it was $100 off if you have it installed by them... I had it installed ofcourse but took it out when I added the swi-cle2 that allow the use of the steering wheel controls. The installation by CC was actually clean and did not leave any scratch on the truck.

Spot on. The Toyota Nav in the Urban Runner is basically the Eclipse AVN2210p.

The Toyota Nav in the limited is the Eclipse AVN6620.

archangel37,

Can you possibly post a couple shots of your seats? I am thinking of buying the interior package for my 05 SE but I want to see better pics of it first.

Thanks!
