Hi, I have been lurking here for awhile, reading and availing myself of the great information here. So I finally registered.
My wife and I live in Phoenix, Arizona, and 4Runners of every generation are very popular in Arizona.
We own a Toyota Highlander, and are seriously contemplating moving up to a 5th Generation T4R, so the wealth of info here is very very helpful in my due diligence research before making a major purchase.
We rented a 2010 T4R for a weekend about a month ago from the one Toy dealer in the local metro area that does rent them. We really liked the vehicle. We drove up into the mountains, around a small city there, and out over bad roads to a friend's remote property. We zeroed the T4R onboard computer at the start of the trip, and the vehicle averaged 21.5 mpg up and down mountains, etc., over all conditions during the weekend. The 2WD SR5 we rented had about 1800 miles on it. I was pretty impressed with the mileage for a vehicle of that size and weight under those varied conditions. Our 2004 Highlander wouldn't have gotten any better mileage -- probably about the same, and it is smaller and somewhat lighter.
