New from NM haveing a couple problems

New to the forum from NM. I have a 2000 sr5 manual 4x4. The problem that I've been having is when the motor is not at running temp it sputters real bad, loses power and will almost turn off. As soon as it reaches running temp it drives fine. I've changed the air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor but still sputters. I'm going to change the fuel filter this weekend but if that doesnt fix it I don't know what else it can be. Also another thing that I noticed ive lost about 5 MPG. Any help will be appreciated.

Regarding your truck, it sounds to me like its misfiring and needs a tune up. Are you getting check engine light? If so, get the code pulled and that will point you in the right direction. If not, the fuel filter is a good idea as those are often neglected. After that I would install a fresh set of spark plugs & plug wires. That should get you running right again and bring your MPG back up.
 
Grab a bottle of Redline fuel injector cleaner and run it through a tank of gas as well as the tune up. It can't hurt, and if you have an injector thats leaking a bit it should help clear some of the deposits out and allow it to shut again.

The other thing I would check is your ECU temp sensor, but you would need a scan tool for that (or the service manual and DMM) and I would make sure the basic maintenance is caught up first.

Ditto that - a fuel filter, new plugs and wires and an airfilter would help a lot. I just put in an order for that stuff for a buddy from Toyota Part Sales of Toyota of Dallas All told it came to about $100 with shipping - pretty reasonable for all toyota parts and not difficult to install.
 
Add seafoam treatment to the first step on the list before new plugs, should be purring like a kitten when shes got all those done.

Why you need to seafoam the car? What are the advantages? and disadvantages?
I saw bunch of video's on you tube.
 
Thanks for the info. I got the CEL on and took it to autozone and they said it was something with the air flow. I checked the the air filter and air box and it was properly installed. Ill try a tune up and some fuel additives this weekend. Thanks for the help

Do you remember what the code was, exactly? That would help people help you to narrow it down.
