Wanted to take a second to introduce myself and thank all of y'all for putting together such a great site. Over the years I've had several off road vehicles beginning with a Toyota Tacoma 4x4. Made the HUGE mistake of selling it and buying a GMC Z-71. Bought the Z-71 new and within the 1st six months it was in the shop 4 times for major repairs. Ended up selling and taking a loss. At that point I switched to Jeep Wranglers for my off roading needs. Certainly no complaints with the Jeeps as build options and aftermarket parts are plentiful. Not able to figure out why, I just wasn't satisfied driving a Jeep. I decided to sell and return to Toyota, specifically a 4Runner.
My (new) vehicle is a 1997 4Runner SR5. It's 4x4, with a 3.4 and automatic tranny. I have known the original owner since he purchased it new and told him years ago to let me know if he ever wanted to sell. Aside from the leather interior showing it's age, the vehicle has been well cared for. I have service records dating back to the 30k service from the dealer.
The only thing I've done so far is an exterior detail. I hand washed it twice, hit it with a polishing compound, and then two coats of liquid wax. Needless to say, my 47 year old shoulder felt the effects of this for a couple days. Over the next couple weeks I'll be replacing the front brakes with Tundra brakes(rotors are warped), and replacing the struts and shocks as well as the springs. As a safety measure, the radiator will be replaced and a transmission cooler installed.
