New guy headed to Hawaii

Thought I'd throw up an intro before I post too much.

Currently down in Jacksonville, FL flying for the Navy. Just received orders to Oahu, Hawaii so I decided to park my current car (Duramax) in CONUS and buy a 2005 SE V8 4WD. 130k on the ticker and in pretty good shape.

I've had some rigs in the past, Unimog 406, Rubicon, couple Honda foremans, So I've done a little wheeling here and there. Mostly in middle TN.

Got some good plans for the T4R so I'll keep yall posted!

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about Hawaii. I got lucky I guess.

As far as the Unimog, its a pretty capable machine. Portal axles, locking diffs, big tires type rig. Not very flexy, and a little nose heavy dont make it a great crawler. But its pretty difficult to get it "stuck".

I was stationed at Pearl for a few years back in the 90's and returned for a visit a couple summers ago. You'll love it. And the 4runner will carry all your dive gear and then some

Good to hear! I'll be on the east side of the island in Kaneohe Bay. And I'm definitely looking forward to the surfing and diving!

Welcome to T4R.org man! DUDE you should have shipped the unimog to Hawai'i!! I have never seen a unimog on Oahu, but I believe there might be one on the Big Island.
Sounds like you'll be stationed at the marine / naval air station? I grew up in the suburbs overlooking the bay. Beautiful place to have lived, you'll really enjoy the east side of Oahu. Its not too far from the country and yet close to the small towns like Kaneohe and Kailua.
Anyway man try to do as much mods here in the states or at the least purchase all the heavy stuff and ship it out in the 4R when you do ship out, that way you'll save on ridiculous shipping fees and lengthy waits.
