From one beach to another build.

Hello everybody just wanted to introduce myself, and start my own thread to keep progress on my build !

First off I'm Teddy, and this will be my 5th vehicle in the few years i've been driving. I've had different kinds of vehicles, first was a 97' civic, second a 91 nissan 240sx fastback, third another 91 240 but this time a coupe (Got big into drifting/spirited drives). I needed a daily because owning a swapped motor/turbo'd car became unreliable, so I decided to go with Toyota. I've been living on Oahu (Hawaii) for three years, and toyota trucks are a BIG thing there. Came across a 91 pickup 22re 5spd 4x4 all the good stuff. This is when I fell in love with Yotas .. Plus I needed something to throw my dirt bikes in so I figured this was perfect !

Fast forward to now, I moved off the island, and now I'm currently living in Panama City, FL. In the beginning I planned on getting a newer Tacoma 05+ 4x4 etc, but being young and not having the funds/established credit my dreams were shot down. I started to give up and just settle for a honda to commute around, but then I came across the current 4Runner i picked up. Instant connection !


So on to the build ..

Picked me up a 00 4Runner limited with 130k. Previous owner seemed to take care of the truck seeing tons of receipts in the glove box, and interior was surprisingly clean aswell as the engine bay ! Interior is a huge peeve to me so that already caught my eye.

Plans for this?

Simple reliable daily with occasional trails, lots of fishing, camping, and dirt bike hauling truck.

That weekend I took her to the hobby shop got her on a lift, and did some small work. Inspected all under so far no rust thank goodness, everything seemed fine.



I changed the brakes, oil, and other small things.

So I've made a list to keep track of whats going on.

First I want to fix everything thats broken/missing.

Interior;
-New carpet all around because my current is shredded on the drivers side, hard, and crusty. I found a website online that make OEM fit carpets.
-Weather tech mats all around
-For some reason the steering wheel is a little warped, and looks rough. Maybe I can find a better one, or something from another year Toyota I can swap?
-Dash mat
-Fix clock
-Piece together the few missing interior pieces
-Privacy cover in the cargo area
-The sliding shade that covers the sunroof is off the track on the right side for some reason, and is super tight when you slide it past a certain point, so I want to realign that somehow
-Drivers sun visor is missing .. LOL
-And one of the AC vents has a few of the louvers that don't move with the rest
-Led interior lighting

Exterior;
-Rain guards
-Hood deflector thing maybe?
-Polished bumpers, plus my front came cracked in one spot
-Led Head lights saw a thread on here with a guy who bought some V-Leds, they look convincing to me, plus I'm not really a fan of HIDs
-Red/Clear led tails
-Clear corners
-Led fogs maybe yellow?
-Some sort of rack to hold my fishing poles? Idk yet
-Ditch the running boards
-Maybe a nice undercoating
-New antenna
-Bodywork/paint same OEM color

Engine;
-Just maintain a reliable motor, and super clean engine bay

Suspension; This is where I have most of my questions ..
-I did some research on lifts, and I want to do it right. I want to do a full suspension lift. So I looked into the OME on toyotec. I don't want to go super high, but I want enough to clear the wheel setup I'm looking into.

I was looking to do 881/890 3" and get the build front assembly aswell as the top plate spacer option. I picked the 890 and the 60028 in the rear because I will have my dirt bike on a rear hitch for now until I can afford to get a nice trailer to carry both. Also the diff drop kit. How does this sound? I want a some what leveled lift, but I don't mind a small reverse rake.

As for wheels, I know everybody has their own opinion. Being in Hawaii for so long I like their style of trucks. Smaller wheels with some poke, NOT as extreme as them though. So I'd like the wheels to pass the fenders maybe an inch or two anything more looks ridiculous to me. I was going to do 15's, but i read my year has bigger calipers so you'd have to grind them down .. So I'll probably go with 16's. So I was looking into some MT's 16x10 wrapped with a 285/75/16, so that makes is like a 33 correct? Heard this may be a little stretched so airing down may be risky, but this is fine with me. This build is by far no means a crawler or serious off road truck. Would my suspension setup be able to clear the wheels with some trimming? I could also run a spacer if thats a problem. Also I'd re-gear after all of this.

Currently waiting for all my tools to be shipped here, so I can't do much as of now.

I plan on buying a new toolbox/work bench, and a compressor. Will all come in handy when I need to wrench on my bikes/truck.

Nice sounds like you have a plan.

For tool box look on craigslist you can always score a full set of tools w/ box for a few grand from a retired mechanic.

Hopefully it works out .. I've learned a lot from my previous builds. Do it right the first time, so you won't pay for it later. I only buy quality things.

Yeah I scan craigs almost everyday for stuff !!

Messing around Sunday trying to flex the stock suspension haha. Running boards have to go ASAP. Hopefully my tools get here soon. Maybe some sliders in the future?










Can't wait to get some lift on her ! Still doing my research before I start buying stuff.
