Glad to be here. Just joined after browsing around a little.

I'm too busy to browse for long, but I was wondering if my fellow 4runner fans/geniuses can help me out a bit.

I have an '04 SR5, and I was wondering if there are any suspension lift kits available for this thing? Every time I search on the Internet, I get results for '02 - earlier model 4runners.

Also, I have the V6 model, I was wondering what are the most common/most recommended intake and exhaust upgrades that are available for the 4runner.

I'm sure I'll have more questions for you guys, so I thank you in advance.

Welcome, and yes there are

Stay awasy from Nitrous enterprises, and go with the Daystar lift. I don't have one as of yet, my a few guys on here do.

A fellow northesterner has one with a nice set of revo's on it, and it looks great. He just took it offroading this weekend and hopefully will give us an update on how it performed

One other question. Do you have the x-reas suspension or just the regular suspension

There's 3 choices I know of for a spacer lift.

Daystar (the one I have)
Revtek
Cornfed

I chose the Daystars b/c they're 2.5" all around. Excellent packaging too.

The Revos performed well off-roading but the trails were easy so they weren't really challenged. Koz, with stock Dueler HTs, did well too.

X-REAS isn't available for SR5s so no, he doesn't have X-REAS.

I have a 98 t4r,SR5 4WD... i decided to join after browsing. I'd say this is one of the best sites i've seen so far, guys/geniuses i have question, i want to replace my tires and shocks with better ones but i want it to look stock. im planning to go skiing this winter, what do you guys recommend for tires and shocks????...

Thanks for the information on the lift kits, guys. I'll look into those sometime today. Does anyone have any pics or links to pics of 4runners with the Daystar lift installed?

What about performance? What are the best intake/exhaust combos out there? I don't really care about something being too noisy either. My other car is very loud, so that's not a problem. I was looking at K&N intake systems, and someone told me Borla had a dual exhaust kit for the 4runner?

Any experience, advice, opinions on these?

I personally love my Borla dual. Nice throaty sound but not abnoxiously loud (even though it sounds like it noise doesn't matter to you). Increased my MPG also, not much, but I'll take anything I can get with today's gas prices. Just drove from Alabama to PA and averaged 22 MPG according to the gauge, pretty damn good.
 
^^^ Glad to hear that you're happy with your Borlas. They're pretty nice products, I just installed a dual kit on my brother's H2, it looks and sounds nice.

Your sig lists that you have a V8. Do you happen to know if Borla makes that kit in V6? I guess I could search their website myself, I'm just lazy and hoping that someone here knows so I don't have to take an extra step of research....:gaptooth:
 
Here's a thread on the Daystar 2.5" lift.

I also have 265/70-17 Revos which are about 1" bigger than the stock size (32" vs 31")

I don't know much about exhausts for 4runners but I heard some have a drone at ~1500rpm. There's also a few threads on the K&N filters. I chose to stay stock for now.

Thanks a ton for the help. Newbs appreciate this a lot. The pictures look nice so far, I just have to read up on the install process and see what's involved.

Could you fit bigger tires with that lift than what you chose, or do you start running into rubbing issues?

No problem. That's what this forum is for.

I don't think you can fit bigger tires w/o trimming bits and pieces.
 
Noobie here also, been lurking for some time though. Great site, lots of great info.
I do have a question for Bobby though.
You said you have the Daystar lift and I was just wondering if you also have the X-Reas.
Wether you have the X-Reas or not, what is your opinion of the handling since the lift was installed? Firmer? Bumps give more of a jolt?
Just wondering because I am probably going to do a lift, but only want to do about 2.5 inches also.
Also, did you go with larger tires?
 
Hey man, welcome. I've learned a lot already here, so I'm sure you will too. I was leaning towards the 2.5" lift too, but I want to put on at least 33" tires, so I may look for a 3" lift or more.

If you look like 2 or 3 posts up from here, Bobby states the tire size he's running. He said it's about 1" bigger than stock.
 
search search search...

if you don't have xreas and want to lift your 4th gen, look into OME. They are a full coil and shock suspension kit that will give you lift and still give you the feel of the stock ride. Spacers are great and cheap but over time the ride will get harsh.

search for OME and you'll have plenty of info. if your budget is limited then spacers are the way to go but since you have a non xreas 4runner, just fork up a few bucks more for a real lift kit.

btw, for 3rd gens, i recommend the ome kit as well or the tundra kit. for more info on the tundra kit visit yotatech.com and search for tundra kit.
 
One thing I noticed is that the Daystar lift only preloads the spring about 1" whereas the Cornfed preloads the full 3" (or 2.5") so the ride on the Cornfed would be a bit harsher than the Daystar lift. I haven't noticed any difference in ride other than the higher CG (center of gravity) but it still handles about the same. Just be more careful since the CG is higher.

All Sport editions have X-REAS so yes, I have X-REAS ;):.

265/70-17 is a 32" tire. The stock 265/65-17 is a 31" tire.

If you want to go more than 3", you'll need a LOT more parts and work (not to mention $$$) to get there.

jdub24 didn't mean to hijack your thread. I figured since the question was along the same lines as your question that you might be interested in the answer also.

BTW I do have X-Reas and I'm not ready the gut the system as yet, brand new. But in time???

What makes the spacers get harsher over time?
