Hey guys I just got a '07 4runner limited and am loving it. I'm thinking of adding a subwoofer and don't know the first thing about starting a project like this but want to do it as cheaply as possible. Ive heard that Kicker is a good brand... basically any suggestions ya'll have for a cheap, sweet setup then i'd love to hear it. Also, trying to get it up out of the way like a stealthbox sounds great. I'm pretty good at woodworking stuff so building my own box is an option. its more the amp and sub inside of it that i need to know about. Thanks!!

Unless you want massive bass (the kind you hear a block away), then a single 10" sub in a sealed box is perfect addition to any 4runner. I run a single 10" JL sub in a Sound Ordinance box. I have channel's 1 and 2 bridged on my Alpine MRP 250 amp, which gives me 100 watts to the sub at 4ohm. No, I cannot make it loud enough to be heard more than 15 feet from the 4runner....but it sounds damn good inside, and it can make the mirrors shake pretty good.

So take your pick of a 10" sub, a properly sized sealed box, and an amp that's matched to the sub. I like Infinity and JL subs myself. Crutchfield.com is basically the best place to get stuff, even though they aren't always the rock bottom cheapest. You can't beat their support and customer service.

Price wise: An amp will run you $100-$200 depending on what brand and style you go with. A 10" sub is usually $80-$100. A basic box for a single 10" will be $60.

Good advice from quicksilvr. A single 10" is plenty. I run a JL 10" now and it sounds just fine. Plenty of bass. I used to have two 12"s, it was dumb. Oh and my box is in the storage compartment in the rear so it looks factory. I didn't build it though so I can't help you there. But a 10" in that spot sounds nice and fits well.

Edit: oops you have an '07 and I'm talking about my '00. My bad! My brother has a 10" sub in that storage compartment in the cargo area passenger side in his '05 though. So still could work!

That speaker back there is the factory sub...you have the JBL system yeah? Just replace the sub that is in there with a different one. And you will need an amp somewhere obviously.
