Hello to all. I'm the new guy here.

I bought my 3rd 4Runner yesterday. It's a blue 2000 SR5 with 68k miles, gray interior. I paid 11k for it. 2nd son will use this one away at college.

I drove it about 5 miles and the Check Engine light came on.
I took it to the dealer this morning for the CEL and new plugs, oil and filter, brake check, battery test (it still has the original) and lube all the hinges, linkage and locks.

Hope it all turns out ok. My experience is that it will survive just fine.

I also have a '96 SR5 that I bought new. It has 116k on it. Black with gray interior.
The only thing that I have ever had done (other than regular service) was the AC recharged and seals replaced. 1st Son has it away at college.

I guess the '96 impressed me so much it turned me into a 4Runner (and Toyota) freak.

I just bought an '07 V8 SR5 new. Black with tan interior.
The only complaint with this one is it buzzes in the steering wheel like an electric razor. They all do apparently and there is no fix.

I forgot to mention all three are 4 x 4s.

I've never noticed the buzzing. Sounds like you have a 4Runner-oriented family, welcome.

Uh-oh. I guess I had better clarify this a bit.

The buzzing or vibrating is not a sound as much as a feel.

It is most evident when stopped, in gear and the engine RPMs automatically go up a little. Especially like when the AC is on.

I can feel a vibration in the pedals and the steering wheel like the engine is touching the frame somewhere.
The frequency is similar to a Norelco razor. It actually makes my hands tingle.

I went back to the dealer three times for this and they just keep telling me 'they all do it'. They even brought out another new one and it too did it, although it was not as pronounced. They have checked the motor mounts, exhaust system, etc.

Now mine does have the all plastic steering wheel and maybe if it was leather it would reduce that vibration. They offered to put one on for me at cost ($713) and free labor. I may do that but it seems pretty expensive for a steering wheel.

At $713 you would see my butt at Wal-Mart getting the sponge steering wheel cover lol. Thats is actually my next purchase, a good steering wheel cover.

Weird, I used to have a V8 before I went for my current V6 and I never had any sort of vibration in the steering wheel...

Whoever said "they all do it" is trying to cover up the fact that he has no idea what is going on

Follow up.

The CEL turned out to be the MAF. Parts and labor came to $289.14.
I also replaced the plugs, changed the oil & filter with Mobil1, replaced the gear oil in the differentials, rebuilt the throttle body and flushed the cooling system.

She runs great now.

Is there any difference in performance with Mobil1 compared to what was in it before?

I don't know, I just bought the car Monday.

I prefer synthetic oil over dino though. I have an 02 Camaro V8 and it came from the factory with Mobil 1.
I think it adds to the life of the engine.
