new headlights

im not looking to do any big mods....but have noticed the inside of my drivers headlight the reflective stuff is peeling off.
Its a 2000 so it already has the better of the stock set ups. I have ordered the harness and 80/100 h4 bulbs...a mild and cheap mod ( as listed in another thread)

so what I need is the best replacement housings ?
I dont want plastic lenses that will be junk in a few years.

Maybe check pick n pull for some used OEM ones. Haven't heard great things about aftermarket housings.

FWIW, my housings are not as shiny as they could be either (and are peeling at the bottom). I washed them with window cleaner and distilled water, and it did improve brightness. When I upgraded to the 80/100W bulbs, it made a world of difference even with my faded housings. Might be worth it to try the new bulbs before you cop a fresh set of housings.

I’m in the same boat. Ordered the upgraded harness and 80/100 bulbs. My glass is clean, but the reflective material inside is faded. I was going to replace with the TYC housings from RockAuto.

I've always wondered if it would be possible to disassemble the housing and coat the inside with some "liquid mirror" spray paint. I can't see why it wouldnt work, though the paint is a bit pricey :boink:

wonder if the glass from the stock would fit on the rock auto ones, that are plastic I was told.
we dont have a pick and pull p here...and the only wrecker up here does not have one

I've used Depo's for two different retrofits and the quality is very good. I think last time I paid around $100/set.

Even the aftermarket housings have glass lenses.

If you want the best, you can still get the Toyota OEM headlight assemblies (just the light portion, not the holder/adjustment frame)

RH: 81130-35320

Otherwise, TYC and Depo are the other options - those include inferior adjustment mechanisms/mounts compared to OEM...

Exactly what I did a few months ago. They make a world of difference. That said, I kept my original, sandblasted 520,000-mile headlights.

I kept it in really nice shape for 21+ years (bought it new), but the rear wheel arches started showing rust a while ago, so at the end of last year I stripped everything off the truck and took it to a bodyshop in PA. It was gone for three months - the rust was cut out, new sheetmetal was formed, other rust was found, and eventually both fenders & hood were replaced with new Toyota parts. Along with the usual dents & dings. It became a full glass-out respray.
The truck had never been wrecked, and I've made sure the frame was in good shape over the years.
I picked the truck up in late January and spent about a month going through everything, refinishing parts, and reassembling it. That was a long process....

First pic is the truck stripped and ready for the bodyshop.
