New here and need some serious help

So I'm thinking about just picking up the NGK7787 plugs at the local AutoZone who has them in stock. I would have went with Denso but I can't find them in stock locally. Toyota shows in the manual they came with and/or recommend either Denso K20HR-U11 or NGKFR6C11 (7787) plugs. I'd like to remain as close if not right at what factory specs are so I can know I'm running the engine at exactly what Toyota specified.

So just the regular NGKFR6C11 (7787) plugs are good? I mean do I seriously need to upgrade to iridium NGK's instead?

If you didn't disconnect the battery, should you not do that for a few minutes to reset the computer?
 
Just got back from the AutoZone and changed my plugs right in the parking lot in 30mins lol. The vehicle started up great and no issues so far - crossing my fingers this all helps. I went with one of the two factory specification plugs listed in the manual which were the NGK 7787's. I'll keep everyone posted.

I'm praying to God it's not the head gasket because I'll drive it off a cliff if that's the case lol. I totally do not want to deal with that or look forward to dealing with that lol.

As stated already I read your write up about your issues. I went just now on my break and purchased one of the two factory specified plugs which are the NGK 7787's. It started up fine and everything went great - I pray to God this fixed it. I have heard on many accounts previously to not use Bosch plugs in a Toyota engine but at the time I thought it might work because I had previously tried NGK Iridiums and it didn't work out to well - but this might have been because of the ignition coil issue I had to replace. Only time will tell. I'll keep you posted.

When I purchased the plugs the first thing I did while inside the store in front of the store clerk is check the gaps on the plugs. They measured right at about 42-43. I'm pretty sure from the manual Toyota sets the factory plug gaps at 43 but the manual states

This weekend when I have more time or Thursday after work I'm going to double check the spark plugs and make sure they are 43 perfectly. I plan on getting my vehicle fully detailed - doing it myself lol. I plan on trading in soon and buying something else. I'm either considering a 2007-2010 Nissan Xterra, 2007-2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser, 2008-2010 Subaru Forester, 2006-2008 Volkswagen Touareg, 2004-2006 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2007 - newer Toyota Rav4 or Highlander and lastly but unsure an 2006-2008 Land Rover LR3 (not on this 100%) lol. I wouldn't be trading my 4Runner in if it weren't for the horrible rust issues. My 4Runner was from the upper north and rust has taken a big big tole on her in every way but it's hidden by all the plastic areas. Lot's of decisions lol.

Btw where exactly is Bartlett, TN? I'm originally from Gatlinburg, TN and moved to the mid west about 4 years ago lol. Trust me I'd run for TN if I could but unable to this time in my life. Hopefully soon I will get to move back and be at peace in the mountains again :)

NP, it's a simple job as long as everything goes as planned but as with anything anything is possible to go wrong or break lol - hopefully not. The plugs I changed out today I did in the AutoZone parking lot in 30 mins and that's how easy it is.

A newer 2010 - 2015 4Runner or possible Honda Pilot would be on my list but they hold their value really well and that value is out of my reach or what I want to spend reach lol.

Well everyone almost three days later and no issues whatsoever. The 4Runner is running smoothly. So a bad coil injector and a set of factory specified spark plugs and I'm running great. All issues such as rough idle, hard starts and more is all gone. I was worried at first from different reads online that it could have possibly been a head gasket which I would have lost it lol. But anyways just thought I'd let everyone know and maybe this will possibly help anyone who may have the same issues I do. Most important thing I've found out is be picky and choose carefully with spark plugs you choose, stick with factory specified spark plugs if possible. I could have re tried the NGK Iridiums but thought I'd stick with one of the two factory specified plugs which was the NGK 7787's at $5.49 a plug. Thanks everyone for your help, assistance and everything :)
