New here. Please critique if I'm doing it right

Hi all, I'm Scott. I just bought a 2007 sport, dark gray. My second one, as I had an 03 limited years ago. However, this one I will mod!

I was planning on doing:
kit coil spring spacer kit- 2.5 lift.
black bull bar with plsma lights
7036 xtr alloy 17*9 flat black wheel by pro comp
extreme a/t lt 285/70r17

Please give your honest opinions and tell me if I'm going in the right direction. I plan on starting to go off roading with my boys. I want the rugged look. Yet, able to take on the highways.

Since you plan on going off road I would bypass the spacers and do a suspension lift. Lots of options out there and your budget will really be the deciding factor. IMO a bull bar will offer little advantage to you and it'll decrease your approach angle. Also with those wheels and tire size plan on doing some trimming and relocation of plastic fender parts because you're gonna rub.

I would listen to Dave and check out that thread he linked. 285s are most likely gonna require some serious trimming to fit with only a 2.5" lift.

The bull bar is up in the air. I like the look. However, if the benefits are bad, then I wont.

I'm having them installed professionally. So, I will confirm that they will trim the needed. They did state they will have to remove the mud flaps.

You may wanna go ahead and do a 3" lift if you're set on those tires and that size. As you will find in the link Dawg4Runner posted, most people running 285s have 3", trimming, and body mounts chopped. Many also have .5-1" body lift in addition.

285s are so tall and wide on the 4Runner that they will rub in a lot of places.

As others have already said, if you are definitely going to wheel it then skip the spacer lifts and go with a proper suspension lift. It's more money up front but will save you in the long run as you'll end up paying for the install twice.

Appreciate all that was said. The truck doesn't have one scratch inside or out. Woman owned. And it has only 27k miles on it. Certified pre owned. It was at a dealer sitting next to the 5th generation ones. I just don't like the look of the 5th generation ones- No offense.... And this is my 2nd 4th generation, having an 03 limited. The only thing I didn't like from my first one was the straight wheel wells, but they curved them out. Now I'm in love!

3" will not be to tall for a DD IMO. I am running 2.5 Daystar spacers and I would like a little more lift.

If you are going to be wheeling it wouldnt hurt to do some of the mods yourself. Get to know your rig so when you are on the trail you can make repairs if needed. You said Boys, good time to get them wrenching, if they are not too young.

These Toyotas are pretty easy to work on and there is plenty of information on this and other forums. I bet you have members in your area that will be willing to lend a hand. $100 per hour buys a lot of mods)

Oh yea, the FJ Cruisers have a summit in Ouray Colorado in July. It is kind of a Toyota fan fare but promarily FJ Cruisers. Check out the information on it. Your boys will love it- ghost towns, mines, wildlife and plenty of great offroading in some beautiful country.

This modding is always addicting. I also have an appointment monday to match the two side front windows to the back with the same tint shade. And a lighter tint for the front windshield. Debating on debadging too.

Right? Whats wrong with plasdip? If you screw it up or don't like it you just peel it off. Or do as originally planned and buy the color matched.

I think I'm also going to change the plsma lights to a 12" led light bar on the bull bar. Liking the look better.

Looks great!

I don't like debaging on these trucks, esp. On the sides. The SportEdition badges give just the right amount of chrome. I didn't like the look of mine truck with the SR5 badges off.

I personally wouldn't take the mudflaps off, rocks will come up and chip the paint.
