New Here

Well not only new here but new to 4runners in general. I USED to be an Avid Dodge fan. owned a 2002 Dodge Durango 5.9 liter V8. Had an 84 month 84K mile warranty on it. I took great care of the truck and was it's only owner. It had 80k miles on it and had only recently ran past it's 84 month warranty date. Low miles for it's age and those were almost all freeway miles.
On a Vacation, first in many years, we were on a road trip to Ohio from Florida 15 minutes out of Columbus enroute to Cleveland I hear a loud pop under the hood. All guages were normal. I lost power (engine cut out) so I coasted to the side of the road, within seconds I noted that there was white smoke coming from under the hood. I popped the hood and before I could get outI noted that the smoke was black and the paint was bubbling on the hood, the Durango was on fire! It only took a short time for it to go up in flames. Luckily (by the grace of God) My Deaf wife and myself got out and a couple of good samaritains helped me save our belongings out of the truck before it got out of control. Knowing that I was so diligent about it's care I contacted Dodge.......and was told that they are not responsible and since it was out of warranty (6 months) they were not about to help, it must have been somethin I had done. I decided that this was yet one more reason they were insolvent. We have a 2 toyota corollas, one with 175K miles and 1 with 55K both have started without fail every morning. I decided that it was time to switch and I bought a very low milage well taken care of 05 4Runner SR5 (V-6) Nice truck!! I am so glad I found it.
You all may not know it but I have been lurking for weeks and I have found a ton of information, good useful info (Thank you), I am loving my Toyota and I would love to hear about any successful mods. Thanks for everything......
Andy

Glad you and your wife made it out ok and you're in a 4Runner today. Welcome to T4R.org.

Wow! What a story and footage to back it up. I too was once a dodge fan(98 1500 V10 4x4). Don't see myself ever going back. Welcome to the site.

Thanks for the Welcome!!!

Well I have to admit that was one heck of a way to start a vacation and to watch my well cared for Durango (which I now understand is Cherokee for "Car on fire") :flamethrwoer2: burn up was disheartning to say the least:wow2:

Hi ...no.... mines are not blacked out.....Mines are Halos's Angel eyes... I was about to blackout my stock ones took them apart and all that...but didn't do it at the end. Tought about buying the ones you bought but they were very expensive if I am not mistaken I think they were like 300 bucks...and to pay that I could just black out mines instead.
