Just wanted to say hi ya'll! After years of saving finally bought a 2004 SR5 V8 Black. Found one in great shape with only 51k and I'm pretty stoked! Will for sure install leveling kit. Actually prefer a little lower in back but will most likely do a daystar 2.5/1.5 from what Ive read. Some have similar Cornfed 3/2 but to me it still looks a little lower in the front. Since I dont have the sport it looks like a pretty straight forward application. Not really sure if the daystar spacers Ive like are preload or not

Want to keep mostly stock for a nice daily driver. Maybe a little tint, some liners and the leveling kit. Will use for camping, hiking, & a hitch haul for bicycling.

Alot of sweet rides here!

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new-to-you 4Runner! You'll love the power and AWD of the V8. JUst make sure you get the calipers looked at and serviced to avoid the seizing, get the reg. scheduled maintenence done (changing the oils in the transfer case and differentials is important) and enjoy!

You'll find a LOT of lift info here, do just do use the search tool and read away!

Use the FJ daystar kit, as I did, its top out only, no preload.....heres mines

33"s VERY soon :) I have a set of TRD's at powder coat now to match the trail teams but I jumped the gun a lil and didnt realize I will have to change rotors/calipers so the TRDS will fit :( So I need to decide if I am keeping my stockers or getting a set of FJ stock 17"s to powder coat graphite/gunmetal. Going to go with Maxxis BigHorn 255/85r16, or BFG MT KM2's 255/80r17.....not to HJ the OP's thread :)...sorry dirt bike chica :)

Welcome! I've got a 03 setup similar to what you're wanting, absolutely love it!

Presta24: the only ones that have issues are the ones with the Sport edition brakes. They were standard on sport models and optional on Limiteds. I don't know that they were available on the SR5's. Have you verified you've got the larger brakes? Those 16's should fit. It sucks my tires are brand new, otherwise I'd take them off your hands (my tires are 17's).
 
Thanks for the warm welcome! So I thought I was set on the 2.5"/1.5" Daystar....but I called them with questions and they said they no longer make that lift. They make a 2.5/2 and it still gives you factory rake which I dont want at all. He also said that kit doesnt require disassembly of struts.

I did ask him about FJ spacers and he said they wouldnt work as they mounted differently.

So looking just do level it out with spacers at this point. Dont want to get into swapping springs or shocks yet. Just simple, to bring the nose up to where it should have been from the factory and a slight overall lift. Quality but cost effective since I will need to do an alignment also.

Your options for leveling are either 1" or 2" in the front, outside of getting a custom spacer made for somewhere in between. Toytec and Cornfed both make a 1" spacer (1/2" thickness) and Daystar has a Budget Boost kit that gives 1.75"-2" (you'll see this listed as giving 1" but it's actually 1" material and gives more lift than that). You can do like me and do the 1" Toytec plus FJ springs all around (if yours is 4wd, if 2wd use the 1/2" spacer with FJ springs). This will net around 1.5" front and .25" back. Swapping coils isn't bad at all, really doesn't add much complication to the overall install, plus it rides much better with the FJ springs. OK maybe Im missing something here. Is it that Daystar USE to make 2.5/1.5 and now its available thru Amazon and other places. Maybe its still around but out of production for DAystar? So lets say I order thru Amazon, I DONT have XREAS so do I still need to disassemble and rent a spring compressor? Not a biggie if I do, just want to make sure I have all of the correct tools.

The spring swap does look pretty straight forward but I just have way too many projects going on. Need simplicity at this point. Restoring vintage camper, 2.3T project car, banshees, and not alot of time :)
