New Horns? What Do You Like?

I'm getting tired of the little meep-meep horns these 4Runners come with stock. What do you guys like to put in? Not looking for anything loud, just something a little more suitable for a truck, if you know what I mean.

If you can direct to any sound clips of your favorite horn on the manufacturers website or youtube or something I'd appreciate it!

At least a couple of us here have interest in the Hella Sharptones. They are apparently a lower frequency, not as high as the Supertones at least...

I wasn't particularly impressed with a pair of Fiamm El Grandes that I found in the garage...

150db train horn seems to work well for my friend... at least he gets to use his on-board-air setup more often now.

I will admit, I think I even said so in that thread, the sound of El Grande is an improvement.

These are what I use. They are one of my favorite mods on my 4runner. They earned their keep the very first day. Someone in a brand new Tundra was traveling in the next lane to my left. He started to lazily make a right turn into the lane I was in, like, right into me. As I was easing away as I sensed that he was getting closer to me, I hit the new Super Tones. He came back into reality, (probably put down his phone) and not only stopped turning into my lane, but he made a left turn and pulled into a parking lot to collect himself. Those horns saved both of us a huge headache.

At first I was thinking I wanted a loud truck sounding horn. But the more I thought about it, I realized that the somewhat uncomfortably shrill European sounding horn gets people's attention incredibly well and would be a great asset in protecting my vehicle and I.

I run Hella's also. Huge improvement over the stock sound and literally a 5 min job. A real plug and play deal.

If you have a U-Pull-and-Pay type salvage yard nearby, the 4 note Cadillac horns are a great option. I bought the horns for $4 each and had the rest of the wiring supplies on hand, so it was a cheap upgrade.

There are 4 horns in total, including an A-note, a C-note, a D-note, and an F-note. They put out a combined sound level of ~120dB and sound similar to a train horn, but without the need for compressed air.

The only downside is that they take up some space, but if you're running a stock bumper there is plenty of room above the front crossmember.

I totally understand the reason for having a horn, but it's not something I consider needing as an upgrade/mod.

Are you all really using your horns that often?

Those are actually quite... musical! That's awesome.

I live in California bro. Stupid drivers everywhere, half of them are playing on their phone while driving.

I tried simply plugging mine in and couldn’t get them to work. I’ve not looked into it much yet but was a bit confused with the stock wiring. There are two wires that mate to a single plug on the driver side and one wire on the passenger side.

Did you ground your horns? I stripped both factory wires and combined them into a single connector for the horn with two wires. I assumed both were power for the higher tone horn. Then I paralleled each horn into a single grounding point.

Factory horns are grounded through the mounts, those can't be painted, and if they are need to be scraped clean to make contact.
