Hey all,
im the proud owner of a new to me 02 sr5 4 runner... black :-)
not new to the offroading world... I live near seattle so I have many great places to wheel. I also own a 91 pathfinder with cranked T bars LSD and some KC daylighters up top... I bought it to have fun with and caught the bug, but being that it has 260,000 miles im unwilling to invest in lots of upgrades like a true lift kit and skids/ sliders and all of the goodies that one might want.... sooo.. that left me to buy a newer platform.. thus the 4 runner. Had everything I wanted.. mostly an actual frame which the newer pathfinders lack...plans in the near future will be in this order.. 3 inch lift.. arb bumper w winch, lights, sliders, skids...and a locker.... and the rest of this mod disease will decide the fate from there...I like to go out and hit the trails just about every weekend... here is a current pic of my beast... hopefully the running boards will be off this weekend. oh, I'll add a few pics of my pathfinder which i intend to keep until the runner is suitable to enter the mountains.

oh yea, im also a regular on the nissan pathfinder off road association NPORA under Beavis0076 :bluejump:

hm... i like the 4 runner as it sits for an every day driver.. much more modern... the pathfinder is the best stock offroad in my opinion as it has the lsd... now if I had an e locker...? I also like wheeling the pathfinder better because its old and when I smash something, i just laugh.. i wont be laughing when I smash in a quarter panel on this...The pathfinder is hands down one tough truck.. i have tried to break it and it just keeps going..... i hope the 4 runner is the same, although im pretty sure it will be.
overall though I think the 4 runner with a few mods will be the winner for best daily driver/ wheeler. :-)

i know what you're saying bro, i wish i have a little beat up 2 door long bed tacoma that i can beat the crap out of and still be able to haul stuff for me, may be one day............

yes, very near mint.. i looked for a long time to find the one I wanted. It was for sale at a dealership, they bought it privatly from a guy in eastern WA.. we have no rust here which rocks! I went to see it the same day the dealership got it and bought it. :-)

I also just picked up a 02 SR5 in White that is in ridiculously good condition. I think I'm sharing some of the same happiness as you. Black probably would have been my first choice, but it's amazing how quickly I've come to like this white one having never imagined myself buying a white car. I'm considering removing the running boards for looks if nothing else. Do they actually serve any purpose?

Also does that little spoiler on the rear over the brake light actually do anything? I have not been on this forum long enough (my 2nd post) to see if people have removed those. I suspect though that I'd like the look if it was removed.

Congrats on the new ride! Slightly jealous cause your is black.

The running boards do have a purpose, they're there to rub dirt off on your pant leg when you get out! :D The 2002 is the lowest ride height of all 96-02 models so I don't think they're really necessary.. hell I wouldnt find them necessary even if it was lifted. Take em off!

The rear spoiler actually prevents dirt from settling on the back of the car so your windshield in back stays nice and purdy. It also helps with airflow in the back windshield. I didn't have one myself and installed my own, it's very worth having.

Welcome!

I concur: ditch the boards, keep the spoiler (dust diverter, whatever). The latter is quite s****y and useful for helping tie things like mattresses on the roof. I see a base model without and it looks naked to me.

EDIT: What?!! You can't say s****y??? S-T-U-R-D-Y , seriously?? LOL

My Pathfinder is white, and it is a great color for offroading.. dosn't show the scratches from tree branches and stuff like Black does.. so if your going to wheel it, white is a good choice! Nice truck!
