New Ipod Nano integration problem!

I purchased an Ipod adaptor for my new Nano. I bought the USA Spec PA12-TOY. It is suppose to have a hybred mode to allow you to not only control the function of the ipod from the ipod itself, but also skip tracks via the stereo and steering wheel controls. Well...that's not the case. In the hybred mode the ipod is locked and you are unable to control the ipod, but you do have text information. In the direct mode you can control the ipod from the ipod and skip songs, but no text info.

I called Dice as well thinking that their unit might work better. Nope, no dice (no pun intended.) Same problem in the playlist mode it's locked out, in the direct mode no text.

So, moral of the story if you are looking for an adaptor keep this in mind. It seems that there is not a good adaptor out there yet that is able to work with the new nano or video ipod.

Funny that you posted this reply, because this morning I installed the Vais Tech. unit. They are right down the street from where I live, and being that I had problems with the previous integration kit I tried, I wanted to go with someone local.

Nice guys over there at Vais. Very helpful and are actually taking the time to look into an issue that I have with their unit.

First let me say that it is the most expensive unit out there, but it seems to come with first class tech support and the sound quality is great. The unit is different than most being that you have to organize your music into play lists. Not a problem, it is able to take 99 play list with 999 songs per play list. This is in the CD Changer mode. I have found that past "disc 10" I am loosing title and text information. I called them after install and went back and forth on the phone with these guys about the problem. They are looking into it. They are stating that it might be a limitation in the stereo, I really hope not. I would recommend this unit and hope that they find a fix for the missing text.

Overall I think that the constant change in Ipod software and the ever changing Ipods themselves prove to be an issue with these things. I don't think that any of them are perfect or a perfect solution. It's really a crap shoot if they happen to work as advertised with your specific Ipod and specific head unit. I have to say that this is the only company that is interested in looking into the problem that I am having and are willing to take the time to research it, that in itself is worth the money.

So, moral of the story...still hoping for a resolution!
 
What is the sound quality like with these iPod integration units? Is it as good as an MP3 CD? Is the quality better than using the aux input?

The sound quality is excellent at least as good as CD. I think it's better than CD personally. I would suggest this over any other less costly options.

I disagree. I have the DICE module:

...and you can control via steering wheel OR use the (in my case) nano directly.

Is you iPod running the latest software? I was having issues with my Nano and Kenwood DNX 7100 until I read it needs at least software version 1.2. I updated the iPod now it works perfectly.
 
It has the most current software. I'm still waiting to hear from Vais. My guess is that it is a Toyota radio limitation. My brother's ipod classis does the same thing.

I'm hoping they come out with a fix, but not counting on it!
 
Hmm. I have a PA12-TOY sitting right here that I was going to throw in next weekend, for use with an iPod classic.

From the product brochure:
* New Hybrid mode - you are now able to search and select songs directly on your
iPod as in direct mode or access your mobile play list through the factory radio.
Song Title Info displayed on iPod and Radio

Have you contacted USA-SPEC to ask why your unit is not working as advertised?
 
The Classic should work just fine with the USA Spec unit. The problems exist with the new nano and the USA Spec. I ended up returning the USA Spec and went with the Vais unit. A little more pricey and it doesn't have the hybrid capability. I had hoped that it would solve some of the short comings, but it didn't. It appears the new nano's software doesn't allow for a hybrid mode.
 
Ah, ok, thanks, I thought you mentioned that your brother's classic was showing the same issues as your nano...
 
Your correct I did see the sames issues with my brothers classic, but those issues are with the Vais unit not the USA Spec. I think you should be fine. If not I can say that their tech support was great and I no problem returning the unit when I ran into problems. Good luck!
