New Lift's On The Horizon

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and have an 05 4Runner Sport. Now that the new 05 Tacoma's share the 4Runner's platform what is everyone's thoughts about more lift manufacturers producing taller lifts that will work on both. The Tacoma has always been a popular truck to lift and so I would assume any lift engineered for it should work on our 4Runners as well. Looking forward to some discussion the matter and happy to be here learning.

I'd like to see Donahoe develop a set of coilovers mated to a Total Chaos control arm.

Sway-A-Way has a set of coilovers, but they are the 2" shock body. Good for leveling the street truck, but maybe not good enough for the serious off-roader.

I have the 3" OME lift on my 04 SR5 and I love it, but I wouldn't mind having the option to go higher in the future. Maybe a 6" from Fabtech would be cool, they always have one for the Tacoma. But it would have to ride as well as my OME does because this is still my daily drive and we travel alot.

if you plan to keep your xreas (since you have the sports edition), then you're stuck with the spacer technology (cornfed, daystar, revtek).

if you plan to remove the xreas then your options open up significantly.

the only options are: (all currently available and all great offroad - much better than the spacer technology)
coilover technology - downey, saw (has both 2.0 and 2.5's btw), donahoe.
coil and shock technology - OME

You really can't go beyond these limits. This meaning you can't add a 6" fabtech kit that is in development (I'm assuming since they built one for the older taco so it's a matter of time). The reason is simple. How in the world do you plan to make a 6" rear lift? Unless you plan to go all custom in the rear it's not worth the time and $.

I've seen a few older gen 4runners use the 6" lifts but a lot of done to the rear just to complement the front (at that point, going full custom is better off I think).

So the Donahoes are available for the '05 V8? There's nothing like a quality set of coilovers. I put a set of Fox coilovers on my Titan and they made a world of a difference.

Yup it's available. I personally have fox but that required lots of fabbing though

Okay, the 6" Fabtech is out for the new Tacoma which I suspect is a direct bolt on for our 3rd gen's. My plans for the rear will be 5" custom coils from Deaver and a NE custom panhard kit. As this is the first Toy I have ever lifted I am looking for some feedback from you guys. Your thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
