The main problem I had was the instructions. The instructions show 2 basic designs of the Toyota Nav. The instructions state to connect the wire shown on the photo of the instructions. That didn't work for me. I had to connect almost all the cables including the pass thru cables. There are 3 wires that were not necessary (2 green connectors and 1 black wire with a red crip on the connector). When the green connectors were connected to the NAV, the GPS part of the nav no longer worked. I verified this through the service menu and found that the GPS was not receiving a signal. As soon as I disconnected the green connectors and replaced it with the factory wire, it worked fine. Of course this meant taking the dash apart several times (each time I found a problem).
The lock pick 2 is not active all the time. You need to press the power button twice to activate it. Twice again to de-activate it. When you activate it, the GPS stops tracking. You can input addresses, phone or whatever while the vehicle is in motion. When you de-activate it, the map will start tracking you from the time you activated the lock pick, it will not show your true position for about 15 seconds (GPS needs about 15 seconds to lock on).
Press the info and power button twice and the back up camera will come on in any gear.
The website showing the removal is pretty good, but I added some notes for you.
Photo #2 - I didn't need a screwdriver, just pulled straight up (your center console lid needs to be open). I also used the ashtray cover to pull straight up. Mine came up pretty easy.
Step #2 - There should be 2 screws holding down the rest of the console (on either side of the shifter.
Step #3 - I would do this first...
Step #4 - Don't forget about this screw (first photo).
I didn't have to remove the plastic center console storage cubby cover.
If you use a socket, you can still get to the screw shown on photo 4 of Step 4.
Removal of the temp. control unit, just pull straight out from the bottom, just enough so you can grab the sides. You want to pull the unit straight out, do not try and pry it up or you may break the tabs off.
The rest of it is pretty accurate. Getting the main console (air vents, hazard button, rear window button) is a little tricky. You just have to wiggle it around until it comes out.
I also used a heavy towel over the cup holder/shifters so when you pull the nav out, you can rest it on it without damage to the screen.
The unit of his nav is slightly different from mine, I have a 2007, I think it's a E7008...
