New Master Key - 2011 4Runner

I managed to loose one of our master keys to our sr5 4Runner. It is one of the real keys with the keyless entry attached. The dealer quoted $193 for the key and then $120 for programming. Are there any cheaper options than the dealer? Denver area if it matters.

Funny, I bought a certified pre-owned 2011 just before the new year. I asked if there were two keys and the salesman went and grabbed the "spare". He said that the CPO has to come with two keys. It was one of those like the link shows with no toyota logo on the back of the case. Cheap-arse dealer...lol.

So I buy this and then take it to the dealer to be cut and programmed? Does the FCC ID not matter?

I just bought a 2014 two weeks ago and only got one key. I bought the key from an online dealer for $125. Then took it to dealer and paid $60 for cut and program. I called multiple dealers and got all sorts of quotes. It takes less than an hour so it should not cost more than the standard $80 labor charge. I would not buy a fake key off eBay and one dealer even told me they wont cut those keys.

Something else to point out is that a locksmith should be able to program them as well, if you're shopping for prices.

Damn, those prices seem harsh. I recently bought a Limited with only one key. Went to the dealer and bought a smart key + programming for $180.

If your buying a new 4runner that is short a key why isn't the dealer giving you the key for free??

If you can get by with a key with no buttons, this is what I did a while back:

I bought a chip key on ebay for $21, had a kid at Pic a Part cut it for $2 and bought Techstream for $26 and programmed it myself. Works fine for under $50. Key only, no lock/unlock buttons.

Later I saw ACE Hardware will make a clone of your key for $69, no programming needed. I`ll bet other hardware or lock shops will do the same.

Too much hassle for a spare key.
