I finally got me something to go four wheeling in! I recently bought this 85 4runner for $500. It's obviously not in perfect shape. The body is kind of rough and the interior is rough as well. They thought the transmission had gone bad in it. It was making a squeeling noise. It turned out the fluid was bad low in it. I filled it up with Lucas and regular gear oil and that cleaned it right up. Other work has been putting new rear tires on it, replacing the busted stereo, changing the battery, cleaning up the battery acid damage, and reattaching plugs.
There's still some work to be done of course. When the motor gets warmed up sometimes putting on the break causes it to rev and back up. I think the throttle positioning censor might be bad. The heater core is also probably no good.
However, I have taken it off road once since we've bought it and it performed admirably. I'm really excited to get it.
