New Member but already in a pinch

Just joined and I have to say that I am impressed with the amount of help everyone's been giving to people on their threads.

Since reading other threads, I've decided to vent out a little. I used to own an 82' 4x4 Toyota pickup, it was a nice little rig for fishing and hunting, nothing major but I eventually sold it because I moved and couldn't it take along with me. Since moving back I realized how much I missed fishing and hunting so I decided to take my little civic to the Portal Forebay which is a good ways drive from Fresno and the road gets a bit bumpy. I realized how much I missed my truck driving my little civic up to the fishing hole so I decided to look for another truck but found a deal on craigslist I couldn't refuse (or so I thought) so I traded my 1993 Honda Civic for a 1988 Toyota 4runner v6 with $500 on top. When I got the truck I realized it hadn't been registered since 07' so I paid $600 for registration fees. On top of the fees, routine maintenance and interior was in bad shape. I managed to change all the fluids (which looked like it hadn't been changed in years) but as i drove around the block I noticed a rumbling sound when I brake so I decided to checked the brakes and the rotors are completely shot out.

I'm trying to change out the rotor but I have to take out the hub first and it's been frustrating me that I cant find the correct hub lock socket to take the hub off. Anyone know where I can get one or the socket size?

I believe it's a 54mm socket.

I was able to get mine off with a large pliers and 2 flathead screwdrivers.

another tip is to use some penetrating oil and soak the nut for about 30min. Sometimes you may need a breakover bar to break it loose too.

Like Dingman said, it is 54mm. You're highly unlikely to find one locally. You might find a 2 1/8th socket at the chain parts stores or sears, and it fits pretty close. Or you can get one on-line - try Toyota 4X4 Products & Custom Fabrication | WabFab.

I don't recommend the screwdriver and hammer routine. First time I did my front brakes, I had to spend a 1/2hour with a dremel cleaning up the burrs on the nut from some previous owner who had tapped it off with a screwdriver. Get the socket and do it right, it'll save you time in the long run.

Harbor Freight or Sears should have the socket size you need. I replaced one of the front axles and luckely my buddy had the right socket already. But I got one for myself at Harbor.

thanks a bunch everyone and fast replies too. I'm heading to harbor freight today since I got the day off. Besides the initial maintenance issues and interior pieces looking like crap this runner is a beauty so I'll Try and post up some pics of it when it's drivable.

next on the to do list is get the automatic doors and tailgate working. I already picked up a used complete tailgate for $50 off a guy who just cracked his window so maybe this is starting to look brighter.
