Hello from El Salvador.
I bought a 2009 Sport V6 new in August 2009, and I took it to Vietnam for 2 years. Then I shipped it here to El Salvador where I now work.
I'm a consular officer with the US State Department, so I travel around a bit, and take the 4Runner with me. I drove all over southern Vietnam, based out of Saigon and I went up to the highlands around Da Lat quite a bit. Also went down to some of the Mekong Delta provinces also.
I havent explored much of El Salvador yet, although I did have to drive 4 miles through burning sugar cane fields to get to Puerto Barillas and melted all the wax off the dang thing.
I wanted a high clearance offroad capable vehicle that would be readily serviceable all over the world. The 4Runner was the easy choice, and I traded the wife's outback for it. No problems so far. (Except for dealing with El Salvador mechanics who take a week just to run a diagnostic... that's another thread in itself)
