New Member from CA...02 SR5 problem

Hello there - I'm new here and am looking for some advice/help!

This morning when I went to drive my 02 SR5 the car started, but when I put it in reverse (and drive, and neutral for that matter), the car wouldn't move, but the engine would rev as if it were in park. Then when I put it back in park, a screeching noise occurred and the handle jiggled a bit. I tried this several times and the same thing kept happening.

However, when I put the 4wd handle down into H (I assume high gear?), the car drove fine. I took it around the block and it sounded like the gears were working fine.

I put the 4wd handle back into N (in the middle where it was at first) and again the car wouldn't move.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is it the transmission? Any help is appreciated!!

Sally,

Something is up for sure. I was thinking the linkage at first but I don't think that is the issue. Something is up in the trans for sure.

Next, Copy and paste this question in the 3rd gen section so the guys can read this and take stab at it .

The other good thing for you is this. There are toyota parts all over So-Cal so finding and getting a Trans at worst is going to be easy!

There is a very good bunch of guys in your area I would say talking to if you need parts ( I have a few numbers to call myself in that area)

Also go to the So-Cal section and do a quick intro. I have a great mechanic for you if you need a recommendation, he is a little way from you but WELL worth the drive, he is highly recommended among the guys around hear for his specialty in Toyota's
