Okinawa is a great place, I love the water here. Did you guys know that Okinawa is top 3 in the world for diving and snorkeling?
CHmura- Tokyo Auto Salon is great fun too. Stay at the Hardy Barracks and have a blast at night!!!! :mod:
Superman3043 and Ol'Blue - If and whenever I move back to Cali I know I will miss this place. I been here for over 20 years. Night life, Beaches, Eye Candy for the married men, cause If your single here you better not stay single for long :dance: My favorite place to go is an Izakaya. Great food and drinks :clap2:
CV's4runner - I am thinking of a 3" lift kit and some new tires/ rims next. Since I will be on sand most the time I am thinking of getting some BFG AT. Probably go with 285/75-16's.

WOW, it sounds like things have changed for the good there.
We had a saying "If everyone would take a rock home when they rotated, the island would disappear"
I was at Camp Hauge in 1974. They hated us there and you could tell it.
Another Marine and I hitch hiked across the island . That was interesting, we could not talk to the drivers.
The taxi drivers were totally insane.
We found some 5mm rounds on a beach one weekend. Must have been 40 or 50 of them laying around. Told the MP's and let them deal with it. I think that was Blue Beach but that was a lot of beer ago.

Taxi guys haven't changed.
Kin Blue beach is used by military so I am sure you will find things out there all the time.
Even with all the drama it's a beautiful place. :girl:

Yeah, they hated us when I was there too. Don't blame them. I don't think that's changed. I talked to a Marine that I met on a cruise a few years back and he said they were talking about shutting our bases down out there and moving them to Guam. Don't know if that was hearsay or what. Anyway, I got to enjoy it while I was there.

You should do the 3"spacer lift. That's what I have on mine and it was pretty easy to put it on. If you get it off amazon it's only 250 bucks.

superman3043 - They have been talking about moving bases for a long time. Futenma has been on the works for a long time an it might take another 10 years+ just for that base. I don't think US bases will ever be completely gone from here. There are lots of benefits too. I know lots of Okinawan people that love us here. It's all politics and as foreigners we need to treat this place with respect. That should be in any country though.

I found that if you treat people with respect from any place you will get the same in return. I always tried to order in Japaneses and also used thank you for anything, it went a long way with the locals. I never had an issue when I was there. Pretty safe place all in all.
