New Member in need of some HELP (3rd GEN 4Runner)

Hi all,

I am new to the forums. I am in the process of doing a few mods and need some help. I have a 2002 SR5 4WD 4runner and wanted to pick up a set of OEM SR5 style sport fender flares (the bigger ones) that do not connect to the running boards. First mod was removing those boards! I like the OEM style more than the bushwacker, which I have seen some use. I believe they are a plastic material (black). Right now my rig has the chrome trim. so if anyone knows where I can find these or if someone is selling theirs, PLEASE let me know

Other mods Im considering are 2.5/3" lift (Toytech) and thule rack.

Im also about to pull the trigger on some new tires. Looks like it'll be a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/75/16

open to recommendations!?

Those flares are desired among 4runner guys. Your just gunna have to search... wrecking yards, Craigslist, eBay, etc. There are a bunch of write ups on here on how to take them on and of so use the alternate search method that is pinned at the top of the forum and you will find plenty of advice on that process. Thanks Mojave. Yeah I have been checking ebay and craigslist the last week or so and no luch yet... Looks like I need to start checking wrecking yards too. I thought it would be as simple as calling the local toyota stealership but they think Im crazy when I ask about the flares
 
I had a broken rear mudguard on mine when I got it, and was able to order one from an online dealer.

I think it was this one.

Do your research though, there were a lot of different combinations for these things over the years. The one I got was a slightly different color than what was on the truck, but it's close enough. Since this stuff is likely to be damaged in a crash they may still be stocking spares even though a lot of parts are no longer available.

Just for reference here's what's on my truck.

Are those the 2 inch wide flares? I thought those were the limited flares and the ones similar to mine were the SR5...I am confused now.

They are the larger flares, but I think that's what the OP is looking for. My truck is an SR5 that has apparently had them added. (Dealer installed option maybe?)

Either way though, I was able to order a replacement part for this setup from the dealer link above, so even if this isn't the one you're looking for you might still be able to get it new.

nc-grayson: Thanks for the page link, definitely helpful. I guess to clarify I am looking for the SR5 wides (I think they were available for 00-02?) to go around the wheel well of my rig; or even the SR5 skinnys which would be my second choice...

All three of the above options could be referred to as "SR5" flares. The Limiteds, and the Limiteds ONLY, have the flares that include the door cladding. You will never see door cladding on an SR5 unless it was installed after the fact by the owner.

Yeah it does. Mine is just like the top. I am looking for one of the latter two, although the bottom SR5 wide would be ideal. The skinnys would work but seems incomplete without running boards and I dont really want to put those back on. Really hoping something will come up, the chrome strips are bugging me more and more each day haha

Also, if I get a toytech 2.5/3" lift, will 265/75s look too wimpy? I use mine as a daily driver and an occasional off road trip. Mostly just camping up in the mountains and some trails. Just from what I have seen 285s look cool but will decrease power, gas mileage, and will need some trimming to work.

Something to consider with the "SR5 Wides" is that the sheet metal is drilled in order for the flares to be anchored on. This is not the case with the "skinny blacks" I believe.

Also, with the black flares, I think there are OEM front mud flaps available since you don't like the unfinished look (don't blame you) when the step rails are removed.
 
Alico: Thats pretty much what I am aiming for. Very nice Rigs indeed. good to know about the skinny and the mud flaps but I feel like if I go that route and already going to shell out some money for them, I mind as well get the wider flares. I guess that depends on the price difference too.

Mojave: Im out of Corona, about an hour and a half from SD. Ill give them a call and see if they have any runners out there.

Toyota called those flares the "color coordinated fender flares" and they first showed up as an option for the 2000 model year and came on Extra Value Package #4 and above.

The same flares are available on the 01 and 02 models packaged under the trim name "Sport Edition." They look very similar to the Limited flares but they lack the integrated plastic cladding that Limited have on the bottoms of the doors.

Thanks, shouldn't be too terribly hard to find since there are quite a few Sport Editions around.

Awesome. Hoping to pick some up ASAP. If anyone knows of some available somewhere please advise. I am willing to pay shipping from other states too.

I already feel my wallet getting emptier the more I'm on this thing
