I just picked up this 1997 4 cyl leather option t4r. Has 193k , when I first picked it up, driven on freeway the temp gauge would climb up above half to red, I changed the T-stat, and got rid of the problem, until one day I was driving it uphill steady grade and the temp would creep up above half. I can drive it straight long periods or let it idle for long periods and it wont get hot. I let the car idle and tested the fan clutch, stuck magazine in fan and it didnt stop. I don't see any leaks coming from the water pump, I havent had to add any coolant. The oil on the dip stick seems very clean and golden, does not seem to have water. What do you think i should do/look for next? Other than that car runs great for having this many miles, not the fastest but gets me where i need to go. Has no CEL, and does not blow smoke.
