hmmm well i would have to say that I think your source may be flawed... any transmission or mechanical device will have a failure at one point or another but considering that there are guys running around on 96-98 with 250k+ i think that the transmission is good.

question though is why are you asking about the transmission in the first place?

Thank you for the helpful info guys. I hear that it is recommended to replace the timing belt and pulleys at 150K....have any of you guys ran your longer than that....right now I'm on a tight budget and dont have the funds to replace mine

I have a 98 with 156K and ZERO tranny problems whatsoever!

Hmm, usually these 3rd gens are noted for their hardy engines and transmissions.
I am not sure who you were talking to, probably a Jeep fan boy. We buck heads.. :fencing:

Maintenance Schedules state that we get our TB/WP replaced at 90,000 miles.

As for the OP, we don't have many recalls on our vehicles. If we do, they will be covered by a dealership in your area for free of charge. Anytime. There was a LBJ recall but I believe it pertained to only 2000-2002. Mine was one of the recalls but I apparently got it taken care of at 60,000 miles in '05 or something. That and I just replaced them again with the UBJs about 1,000 miles ago.

Although I fixed it right of way, it's when the rear springs sag, and the rear is just that, Sagging than where it should be. It's like a gangster with his pants around his thighs, his pants should be up to his waist. (Bad analogie.)

The [automatic] transmission problems only occur after the radiator fails and the internal wall allows the coolant to blend with the ATF.
Proactively replace the radiator or do as most have and install a separate oil cooler for the transmission.
OR
Buy a 5 speed manual.
