New Member, Santa Fe NM

Hi all,

Just wanted to give a quick intro. New to 4Runners, just bought my first one this week. 1991 SR5, 22RE, 5sp, 4wd, custom faded clearcoat and two tone paint, custom hodgepodge interior trim pieces, no radio, etc. It's great, I'm in love, and will be beginning the restoration process immediately.

It has 187,xxx miles, and a new radiator and timing chain (whole kit). I'm wondering if there is anything else I should check before putting miles on it. It drives, shifts, and brakes fine. 4wd works. Heat and AC work. Any reason to leave the runningboards on?

Engine is noisy, particularly when on the throttle. I've never driven another 22RE so not sure how it compares.

Thanks for looking, and if anyone can recommend any trails around the Santa Fe area I'm interested...

Updated the paint, removed the running boards, and swapped the interior with one from a jy that was in better shape.

Howdy, tighe. Welcome and congrats on the runner. I was just in Santa Fe last week.

Love the custom paint! I had a 22REI engine in my first Toyota, an '85 SR5 extra cab 4x4, and they are a bit noisy. Running boards are for short people, IMHO.

La Bajada hill was my first off-road trip in my runner. But you'll hit your skids with a stock suspension.

Hi buchaja, thanks for the welcome, I appreciate it. And for the links, I'll check them out. Getting bundled up and going outside to remove the running boards now. I've always preferred trucks without them.

Looking forward to getting into 4Runners. Over the last several years I've gotten into Volvos. Love them, but Santa Fe requires something a little different. I hope I'm up for the task of starting from the beginning again!
