Hi everybody,

I'm a new member here and I'm really enjoying the site so far. I've had my 2000 4Runner Limited 4x4 for a few months now and I think it's time to modify it a little. I just ordered a 3" lift from Toytec for it and I can't wait until it gets here. I'm currently trying to decide between 265/75r16 and 285/75r16 BFG At's. I'm a little concerned about the loss of power and whether or not there would be any rubbing with the 285's. Anyone running the 285's have any opinions?

Thanks,
Bob

Hello and welcome fellow 2000 owner!

There are plenty of guys running 285's here. Have a search through the 3rd gen section and I'm sure you'll find answers to all your questions.
With 3" of lift you may have slight rubbing, but a tiny amount of trimming or a body lift will fix that easily. The power loss may or may not be an issue, its fine with some, but then others may prefer to re-gear the diffs.

Hey thanks for the welcomes!

Yeah I thought I might have to trim a little but I think I'll see if the tire shop will mount one of each for me and decide that way. Can't do any of that without the lift kit though, waiting on the slow shipping. I'll post some pics when it's done. I'm very excited and getting more impatient by the minute...:D

so, what did you end up doing? do you think the 265s look too small with a 3in. lift? did you get 285s or what?

With a 3" lift you shouldnt have too much rubbing, personally, I think that they look waay better with the 285s on them...

Loss of power? you have a V6 right? yeah, Ive noticed a loss of power, I put a K&N Cold air intake and it helped out, I definitely still feel the loss in acceleration, but feel like I have more torque/power now... if that makes sense.

Haven't gotten the lift yet, they're really taking their time shipping it, hopefully this week. Pretty sure I'm going to go with the 285's though.

I'll also be looking into a K&N or something to get a little more power out of the engine. I'd really like to supercharge it eventually, but I might be dreaming a little on that one.
