Yea, this is one awesome muffler. I've had it on my own truck for 5+ years. The black coating on the muffler it just to make it look pretty and burns off after a while, which is normal.

I installed a flowmaster muffler and tip on my 99 runner and it sounds great! I had to get a tip long enough to reach back past the point where the pipe enlarges and install a new brace. I also took out the 90 degree intake elbow and took out the intake silencer i had huge power gains very noticeable.

Dang it Jason B! Every site I see you got this link for the vortex. Its haunting and taunting me! Im gonna get one when I get my damn tickets paid off! Ive gotten 3 since I got lifted and bigger tires. So once I get caught back up Im gonna buy the cherry bomb on your site. Probably a lot sooner than I think! I cant resist much longer!!! i kept the stock piping on my and did the magnaflow and it sounds awesome. the thing is i just found out that downey makes street legal headers.....sooo i may have to do the entire exaust system. i already have the cold air intake, so why not the rest of the car? :biggrin2:

Commited to an exhaust system upgrade.
After some research. I decided to go with some recomendations on some of the posts here. And after calling the local muffler shop (Warner's Mufflers), they pretty much set me straight on a couple of things. Though, not much deviation from my initial list of things to upgrade was noted, the final tally came in like this.
-Downey Headers $485
-Installation $250
-Custom Pipes $75
-Flowmaster 50s
and 2.5" Cat sys $250
Total $1060
The headers need to get preordered, should arrive at shop this coming Thursday. And with a $2K bonus from my job, I don't give a $hit if this is too much money for the performance expected out of this setup...
So, I'll let you know how this feels and sounds sometime next week.

Absolutely love the new exhaust.
Clean job done over a Warner's Mufflers, very impressed by their service and knowledge in exhaust systems.
They installed the headers and new exhaust in about 5 hrs. While I was at the office.
The throttle response is significantly altered. Noticed low end power increase. I've also noticed that at hwy speeds, I'm able to accelerate at a higher rate than before, reaching 95mph faster.
I'm loving the new sound of the exhaust, the rumbling at idle is reminisce of a V8. Exhaust noise dampens at high RPM, and that is good, I was afraid the new muffler would be way too loud, but it
