Hello all!

I have used the search feature on this forum for quite a while, and figured it was about time I join. I currently have a 2003 SR5 V6. I previously had a 2007 Sport V8, but the birth of my first child forced its sale. I sold the '07 in May and bought the '03 the same day.

I sold the '07 on Craigslist to the first person who responded on the first day it was posted. I've seen a few posts about prices, in CO in particular today, and I think I did pretty well. It had 36k miles on it, and I sold it for $24,500. By pure chance I saw an ad for the '03 on Craigslist. It had no pictures, just a couple of lines about the need to sell it fast, for $5k. I called and immediately asked him what was wrong with it. He told me that it has 205,000 miles, and that his dog had destroyed the interior. The seats were torn up, and the seat belts were chewed through. I set up a time to see it, ran the CarFax, and couldn't pass it up for the price, especially with a perfect one owner CarFax report.

I got home with it, and immediately took out everything I could remove from the interior. I brought the carpet to a coin-op car wash and power washed and scrubbed the whole thing till only clear water drained from it. I let it dry in my driveway for the weekend, then put it back after cleaning the tub(I found $12 in change under the carpet, which paid for the cleaning).

The seats were too far gone, and the seat belts needed to be replaced. So, I went to a local junkyard and got a full set of heated leather seats for $800 pulled. I asked about the belts, and the guy told me that they can't sell those for reasons that would have been obvious if I had stopped to think about them before I asked. So I went to the local stealer and ordered new belts. I think I paid $280 for the front pair, and a couple hundred for the rear set.

I did a quick tune up; oil change, spark plugs, air filter, cabin air filter, etc. and now it's my daily driver. I replaced the factory tape/cd player with a Pioneer AVH-4200DVD. I used a DAC switch from the junk yard to override the parking break requirement. I also ran the USB to a switch blank which I dremmeled out to hold the female end. I also replaced all of the neowedge bulbs with LEDs, including the one in the DAC switch. Always more to come...

I've put another 6k miles on her since then, and everything seems to be going perfectly at 211,000 miles. I look forward to many more miles worth of contributing to this extremely helpful forum!

Thanks!

No profit, but that would have been nice. I owed just under $25k, so I only had to give the bank a few hundred $$ after the sale. Not bad IMO considering some of the deals people on here seem to get! I think I could make a little on the '03 if I didn't want to keep it. I'm only into it for about $6,500 and I've got to think that I could get more than that for it, even with 210,000 miles. Maybe wishful thinking on my part though...
