New owner! '14 TE

Hey all,
Been lurking the forums for about the past month, and picked up my 14 Trail yesterday! Loving it. Never owned a 4Runner before, used to be a Mustang guy but sold it and my old XJ jeep and have lived in NYC for the past few years car free. Love the truck and plan on keeping it until it's got nothing left.

Anyways, was wondering what types of things I should do to the keep the truck in great condition as long as I can. I have read the threads about rust on the tailgate, is this fixed on the 14s? How can I tell? I see some guys put the 3M clear bra around it and the license plate. How about all weather floor mat recommendations?

I've never had any issues with rust anywhere. Weathertech floor mats are the bees knees! Also look up Antman's thread on No Rinse car wash. Save yourself some money and water!

Sorry it took so long! So are there any "protective" mods I should do now to keep it in good shape? It seems that the tailgate rust only effected 06-09? Is that right?

Looks like I will have to buy the roofrack cross bars as well, silly that it doesn't come with them.

I've always used Husky Liners. In my '14 I went with the Husky Weatherbeaters, full interior and cargo. They fit perfectly and clip down for the driver and passenger front so they can't move.
 
If you really want to protect it... the exterior anyway, get it wrapped. I'm having my new TE wrapped with 3M plastic wrap in matte black. I'm doing it to protect the paint and to achieve a custom look. Mine is still being wrapped but I hope to have it home by weeks end. Yea... some disassembly required.

This. Also, streetsideauto has a function on their site for some products (Husky Weatherbeaters included) that allows you to make an offer if you don't like the retail price. When you make the initial offer, a second screen will come up and let you know whether it's accepted or not based on the threshold set by the system. Keep that window open and continue to incrementally raise the bid until you get the lowest accepted price. If you close the window, the bid option is removed from the screen for future visits. It's probably cookie based, so some browser work would likely allow it to return. Just my $.02 for those interested in these mats.

I like that. Can't wait to see what it looks like when it's finished. I'm assuming your going to switch out the wheels?

Congrats on the 2014 TE

Just picked mine up last week, carbon copy of yours. I'm in Hockessin , DE.

Not planning much, hood protector, some protective film and Dip up front, some Bilstein 5100's to stiffen the ride and BFG KO's when the Dunlops are chewed up.
