new owner of 2007 limited with problem

Hi All:

I have been reading this forum with delight for a while now.
It was of great assistance to me while I was on the hunt for a used 4Runner.
I eventually found a 2007 limited with fairly low km's on it so took the plunge.

It is running great, then it got really cold here -25 Celsius. When this happened the check engine light came on (of course with the VSC lights as well)
I had the ODB code read for me and it indicated a cam position sensor was bad.
Is this a common thing and something that I should be concerned with, or could it be associated with the cold weather?
Does anyone have an idea as to what it would cost to get repaired, and can I drive it with this for a while?

I should have also mentioned that it is a 4 Liter V6.

Back when we had our first big cold snap in early December I had a couple of days where I came out to my 4runner after it was sitting outside all day (at work) and had the same issue.

I can't remember what the code was but I just reset it and drove on, and it didn't come back on. Probably just the extreme cold setting one of your sensors off.

Any more these days I think some kind of code reader/resetter should be in anybody's toolbox, if you aren't running something like a Scangauge or Ultragauge. I run a SGII in my 4runner and an Ultragauge in my DD Mazda pickup so when I get a code, I just make a note of it, reset the code, and drive on.

Not as bad as it sounds. That's -13 f. I think we hit that in Denver two nights ago.

Heck yeah we did! Been super chilly here lately. I notice with this cold of weather my 4runner (06 V6 with 62,000) Makes a couple different noises, but no lights or anything else weird. I am guessing the rest are right though. Chock it up to the cold weather and see what happens before jumping to any conclusions.

I did have it reset and it has not come back.
Yes -25, it had warmed up from -32 in the morning.
Fingers crossed that it doesn't come back.
