New owner with an 01 SR5

Some guys go with Koyo or Denso. I chose to by an OEM one through Camelback Toyota. $210. $900 to replace a radiator is a joke. It's very simple to replace. You rattled off quite a few things you were planning to do on your truck and it sounds like you are leaning towards paying a shop to do some of it. I'm guessing that a timing belt job at a Toyota dealership is going to cost you a small fortune. There's a ton of information available for our 3rd Gens that will allow you to do most of the repairs yourself it you have the time and patience to tackle them.

I'll start you off with a video I made of installing an external trans cooler and replacing the radiator and thermostat at the same time.

Thanks for the link. I only will have an have someone else do the timirg belt and waterpump because I'm past the excitement of doing my own repairs. I need my vehicle immediately and know I can do the rad quickly and easily. And frankly I've worked 29 of the last 30 days and and okay paying the dealer 850 to replace the water pump and timing belt. Is there a good place to get an Ken Toyota radiator beside ls the dealer ? They said their price was $450..

Denso radiators are about 100 bucks and IMO just as good as the OEM ones.

Definitely replace the LBJ's ONLY with OEM replacements. As for the tie rods, I replaced mine with Duralast Gold from Autozone and they have been holding up great (OEM is still a good choice if money isn't really an issue).

$850 for timing belt/WP is actually not that bad of a price, especially for a dealer. Of course if you did it yourself, it would only cost about $300.

I also like Amsoil for all my fluids but my 4runner, given its condition, just gets the basics. Just buy good brand name products for your fluids and you'll be fine.

Camelback toyota (google it) is a good source online for OEM parts at much lower prices than your local stealership. Amazon also has a ton of OEM toyota parts (was the cheapest I could find at the time for OEM LBJ's).

It sounds like you got your head on straight and priorities correct. Maintenance ALWAYS before mods.

Don't forget about the diff breather mod! And for Pete's sake, post some pictures!

I remember reading a radiator replacement thread on this forum and there was one guy who said he'd seen the quality of the Koyo and Denso and he said without a doubt, the OEM radiator looked to be of better construction. So, I figured it was worth the extra $100. $100 extra doesn't seem like too much for a part that's going to last you 100,000 miles or more.

I agree, Camelback is an awesome resource for us. Their prices are very competitive, they charge next to nothing for shipping, and they get you the parts super quick.

OEM is always a great choice if money isn't tight. Some things of course have to be OEM.

Alright guys here some pics.
Also the F150 I came from and am still trying to sell.
Swapped the body from a rust free donor truck this spring. Rebuilt front and rear ends with Yukon 4:10s, chromoly shafts, and a tru trac, 295 Toyo MTs, expy console swap, hid retrofit heads, 4" since straight pipe, MPT custom tuning, super duty tail lights, PTM super duty rear bumper swap, oem ford lightning grille, I even had alll the parts to supercharge it like a Ford lightning but gave up sold the parts for gun money. Had a forged short block put together for it also. So much wasted time and money. It was my baby.
$6,000 and it's yours
